Some thoughts on Huberdeau. He's reading a totally different book than the rest of his team mates, let alone being on the same page. By that I mean he's making world class plays but everyone else isn't even aware of it. I can't tell anymore if he's a genius swimming in a pond of derps. Or he's really really forcing plays to materialize out of thin air.

But Sutter is almost assuredly going to be the coach next year too. And Coronato has to sign before we can talk about making the team.

But calling back the Toffoli goal was the obvious call. We'd be losing our minds if it counted the other way.

So obvious it took them 5 minutes to overturn the call on the ice...I can post examples of more egregious ones counting. Sutter said as much in his post game.

The real issue is that he's forcing too much into the opponents feet, and then not getting on his horse and getting the puck back. I expect better.

Like another poster said, the cap will make a lot of decisions that Sutter will simply have to deal with.

Powerplay Quarterback

Markstrom had a good game. Hopefully he can build off of it.
2-1 with a goal called back against a team fighting with us for a wildcard. Sucks but the flames are a comparable team to the preds and have a coin flip chance against them.
Huberdeau has shown nothing close to a 10.5m player. It's fine this year at 5.9 but he could be one of the worst contracts in the league over the next couple years

Right but the NHL is not super consistent on this stuff. I think if it had been NSH scoring, we'd be apoplectic if it counted. The GT was pretty much unanimous.

Huberdeau needs to start making a difference. Having a coach asking you to play a complete game is no longer an excuse IMO.

I said he's been disinterested and doesn't deserve it, but he was much better with Lindholm and Toffoli than Dube has been.
Dube has had 3 points in his last 10 on the top line and one of those was an empty net goal. He's almost good most games but he tries to do way too much and plays die on his stick.
In that same time frame Lindholm has 8 points, Toffoli has 9.

I'm OK with the call, but at the same time I think the Flames have gotten the short end of the stick with those toss-up reviews a fair bit in recent times
I didn't like the effort overall though so I'd say the result was earned
if they got it to OT it would've been one of those start the car kind of nights
start on time tonight and that review probably isn't the difference between earning points and going home empty handed

I’m hoping Hubderdeau is just the kind of player that needs a full year or so before getting back their game after a big trade. Similar to Taylor Hall’s trade to the Devils. 1st season: 53 points in 72 GP (Huberdeau is on pace 62 points this year). Next season: 93 points in 76 GP (and the Hart). It’s easy to criticize after being spoiled by Johnny/Tkachuk’s seasons last year but of those 3 guys, Huberdeau is the only one who’s team is currently sitting in a playoff spot. I still believe him and Weegar will continue to improve to their career norms.

It's a dumb call, the puck deflected and then it was a kicking motion. Good goal! Should have been 2-2

No, he's not. He's making terrible decisions with the puck and his passes (which is kind of what he's known for) are easily read and intercepted and they kill.the play. If he was out there the last minute there's a better chance that he turns the puck over and we get scored on than he actually makes a game changing play.
He's big and strong, he should be taking games over. The Tanguay comparisons are not far off.

Flames were outplayed in 2 out of 3 periods, lost by 1 goal. Makes sense.
Too bad - it was a winnable game given the lack of goals by the Preds. Saros was solid but not tested a whole lot in the first two. He let in the softest goal of the game IMO. But he was good in the third.

How so? He was -1 with 3 sog. He was nowhere near their best forward. Coleman had a bad game he was +1 with 3 sog, Mangiapane didn't have a good game, he had 6 hits, 4 shots on net, and an assist, and had a plus minus of 0.
I think Dube could be a much better player, maybe it's our system I don't know but he reminds me of Bennett. Out there running around, almost good, then tries to do a little too much by himself.
Don't get me wrong, I want him to go on a tear.

I think huberdeau's single game performance is being blown up here. he needed to be better tonight, but he's had a lot of decent games in recent days too
don't let a short memory get the best of you
he's not earning 10.5 yet either. you'll have to save that one for next year

There you go, "was". If he shows the same hustle as Dube, may be Sutter will put him back there. One thing I can't stand player is "disinterest".

The very first replay Sportsnet showed illustrated the kicking motions pretty clearly I thought. Much more clear cut than Coleman's disallowed goal last season.
After that one, I just assume it's not going to count every single time.
