I understand his point. I just think it's bollocks.

Out of the SIX teams fighting for the two Wild Card spots, you think two of them won't make it to 96? COL has 4 games in hand on us and NSH has 3. (Yah...they have to win them.) But even those up and we're not even in a PO spot anymore.

Teams are gonna fall too

It won't take 96 to make the playoffs...more teams in the mix brings the total down not up.

Well we only have another three (possibly miserable) months to wait. That's the "cup half-full" view.

Its not even a Flames take, just how things are trending, if the Avs go on some massive run they will be taking out the Wild and beating all the other teams in the race. Vice-versa

Yes, they will make it.
maybe no 3 on 3 will be their saving grace

in fact, the less open ice, the better this team does

Maybe I'm being too sensitive but in Tre's last interview with Pat, it kinda sounded like he was hinting that he's bringing up the players that he thinks should be getting a shot. However he was careful to say that he believes the coach should pick his lineup.

I don't think we're playing out the Moneyball scene just yet, but I got the impression Tre would like the call ups to get a good look. And maybe more than what they've been given.

- Backlund line was phenominal once again, can't ask for much more from them
- Hanifin was good
Duehr does look really good. Great skater. Physical.

playing AHLers won't help the goalie make saves on simple shots

Ha ha....Friedman:
5. At some point, Calgary has to give their top prospects a legit shot. I don’t know if Jakob Pelletier — 96 points in 97 career AHL games — is the scorer they need, but I do know we’re not going to find out if he spends his NHL call-up eating press-box hot dogs (although they are tasty).

Apparently he's not a follower of D. Sutter....

I am shocked, completely astounded that when they got lucky having that 4-3 goal called back on the offside that Sutter didnt take the opportunity to pull Markstrom.

Even though it didnt count, that was 3 pucks in the back of our net in under 4 minutes in the 3rd period.

Regardless of that goal counting or not, you pull him. He lost it.

You pull Markstrom. You reach under the bench, grasp your comically oversized Vaudevillian Hook and you pull that bastard like you're trying to start a lawnmower.

They may not unless they block all the shots but we might have to adjust how we play to adjust to the goalie being a sieve.

Of course Treliving would, these are guys he drafted and developed he would want nothing more than for them to succeed at the NHL level.

Problem is that Sutter in his older years has really started to lean into size and veterans being the only way to win.

He wasnt like that in San Jose or in 03-04 in Calgary. His two cup winning teams in LA were young too.

In 03-04 Regehr, Leopold, Saprykin, Kobasew and Lombardi were all 23 or younger to start the season.

This team only Adam Ruzicka. None of Saprykin, Kobasew, or Lombardi had the AHL success that Pelletier, Phillips, or Zary have had.

Maybe we just need the 03-04 Sutter back because that coach was open to playing young players.

He has an NMC don't think anybody would take that contract how he is playing right now

Frustrating that with the number of rebounds that Binnington was giving up throughout the game that the Flames wouldn't take advantage of them.

Really happy with the play of the bottom six; not so much the top 6. The Lindholm-Dube-Toffoli line looked good when they were first put together but rarely create any danger in the O zone. Hope Pelletier goes on that line and Dube replaces Lucic on the Kadri line next game.

It cost a first to get rid of 1 year of Monahan. A few years of Markstrom at similar cap hit could be dealt but this place would burn down at the price in futures...

The answer is not to trade Markstrom. The answer is to give him fewer starts. Really is that simple IMO.

I haven't watched the last several games, since the game threads make it sound like they're just a continuation of the earlier games I did watch. I can't recall a season where my interest level plummeted so quickly.

That's no biggie - every team has the odd down year - but looking at the contracts the Flames have in place going forward and the lack of top-end prospects in the pipe... starting to feel like we may be in for some pretty bleak times ahead.

Maybe the team just needs to make a roster trade or two to shake things up. I'm not sure I even care who might be shipped out at this point.

Flames played a good game though...the goalie let them down

we should be talking about a solid road win
