It would take me about 1/3 of a second before I knocked someones teeth in.
It's ok to have your beliefs, but don't cross the line when it comes to expressing them.

Why give them the satisfaction, the publicity and the legal fee's?

I'm looking at it more from my satisfaction. It would make me feel pretty good to knock out one of the loonies.
But that's just me.

True, but when you say "God hates these people and we are all going to suffer eternal damnation because we allow them to live here", you are pretty much saying it's okay to kill them.
I'm surprised this band of inbred degenerates get so much attention. Isn't the congregation like 90 people and they are all related? I know there is something to be said for wanting to have a look at a trainwreck, but we've seen this one enough times already. There's a whole world of ######ed people out there. Let's have a look at them.

I think that's exactly why no ones done it. It would just strengthen their cause.
These people are insane and delusional. The only thing more disgusting than protesting dead soldiers is the total indoctrination of their children. They have poisoned their children's minds probably to the point of no recovery. It's just a sad and disgusting state of affairs all around. I wish the media and everyone would just stop paying attention to them. Lets stop making their voice heard.

Thats why you'd beat them with a phone book or a bag of Valencia oranges. No marks.

Judge? Try a 12 member jury ALL from the state of Virginia. Wouldn't be too hard to get an acquittal IMO.

I agree.
Harassing phone calls are illegal. Why should picketing funerals not be illegal? They have the same desired effect- to upset the victim.

By protesting they're just making asses of themselves and not gaining any popularity. what I find most sickening though, is the fact that these poor excuse for human beings are passing on this unreasonable hatred onto their children. Child services protects children who have been physically abused but what these people are doing should be considered child abuse.

Had an idea!

Apparently the Phelps crowd wanted to picket the Amish funerals too...but backed out because the Patriot Guard riders were there first.
I talked to a few friends in Virginia, and they are talking about getting a massive effort together to shield out the Phelps protesters. They've done it before with other funerals, so they might try it again.

Guess they just want to be the ones to do the killing. That would be alright because they would do it in (their) God's name.

Oh, I wasnt aware of that - that is quite the turnabout. That seems a bit harsh

God doesnt hate "those" people. It simply (or not so simply) states that particular lifesytle(s) have a more remote chance than say a "normal" one.
Its more likely an admitted whore will get in than the Pope.

Likely because the ground they protest on is public property where as the phone is private, just a guess.

Bang on MYK.
Police have a duty to protect the protestors as they are on public property and exercising their rights to free speech. At the point where things get violent is where public safety outweighs right to free speech.
The Court says that if you are offended by the protestors, "advert your eyes or engage in counter speech".

I'm not really looking to discuss the theological merits of the statement that"God Hates Fags" and whether or not homosexuals (or the pope) are going to heaven. That kind of thing is irrelevant to me.
My point was this kind of thing could be considered hate speech and perhaps a call to violence. They aren't explicitly saying "kill homosexuals", but I think it's in the message, or it could certainly be construed that way by whoever listens to these people.

Harassment is harassment, IMHO. It doesn't really matter where it happens. You shouldn't be allowed to harass people whether it be at work, a sporting event, or a funeral...

I don't agree at all. By protesting innocent people's funerals, saying they are going to "burn in hell" etc, you are instigating trouble. Thank God we live in Canada, where that type of hate speech is not allowed. Just ask those street church guys, who were charged when they told the people at the fringe festival that they were going to go to hell.

Im not advocating the protesting but it is a right.
Please dont start with the "thank God we live in Canada" stuff... it sounds ignorant.

There was a really great inside documentary about the Phelps done by the BBC a little while back. Absolute whackos, but the director did a great job of showing the pain and suffering the poor children are going about as a result of their forced ostracism from society.
"Gramps" will be a victim of a crime of passion sooner or later. Same with that crazy daughter of his.
The point made about social services becoming involved is a great one. They have kids who are under the age of 10 years old on those picket lines. Not to mention the fact that these kids don't even know what "fag soldiers" means and are slowly being indoctrinated, they are also the targets of the retaliatory and well-deserved abuse from the public. The adult Phelps deserve this abuse, but it must have some serious damage on those kids.

Hate speech is not allowed in Canada so standing outside a funeral and saying "death to fags" would not be tolerated.
