This makes zero sense to even contemplate until 2 weeks before the deadline.
If they go on a 5 game run suddenly they’ll look like studs.
They’ve haven’t found their focus as a team yet, & that focus enables a team to execute an identity.
Focused play requires:
- Them to collectively to be present in each moment of the game (not worry about being down or excited about being up).
- Positive self talk about their individual & collective skills & abilities.
- Composure to be maintain optimal arousal (don’t try to do too much or hesitancy from fear of mistakes).
- Concentration on what matters
- resulting in the Confidence that enables them to play to their abilities.
Whether or not they trust Sutter to still enable this is the biggest question.

It is such a tough spot being a goalie, I honestly think Wolf would play better than either Markstrom or Vladar this year and that he fits into Sutter's system way better than Markstrom, but he won't get a chance to show that unless one of the goalies is out for a significant amount of time.

There are 21 games left between now and the deadline. If they win 15 of those games then all the stuff you wrote in the post above is not true.
Right now there is no decision to be made but if the deadline was tomorrow or next week I would agree with you

How does a goalie fit in to the system?

Flames give up a lot of east-west opportunities (from my eye test, so could be not accurate) and Wolf has probably the best lateral movement I have ever seen. Wolf also does great if he faces <20 shots or >35, while Markstrom does better when he can get into the game and faces lots of shots. Under ideal Sutter game where the goalie faces low number of shots but needs to make the tough saves occasionality, I think Wolf would do better

That’s lofty expectations for someone who hasn’t played an NHL game

^ Is he wrong?
2015 - playoffs 97 pts
2016 - nope 77 pts
2017 - playoffs 94 pts
2018 - nope 84 pts
2019 - playoffs 107 pts
2020 - playoffs 79 pts (season interrupted)
2021 - nope 55 pts (North div)
2022 - playoffs 111 pts
I mean, I could see them being awesome next year too.
Sportsnet had some quote recently from Hellebuyck of all people about how expectation destroys teams. That sounds like the Flames. All eyes on them, they have problems. No one expects anything from them? Terrific year.

Sure is, but it is just a feeling I get from watching him play. If he does end up being just as good or better of a goaltending option as Markstrom, it will save us 5 million in cap space in the next 2 years. We are very low on cap space and as of right now the money spent on Markstrom is a waste, so we better hope he turns it around.
I think Markstrom will turn it around but I would prefer the cap space.

There’s a few out there, but not exactly the most reliable sources. Yesterday, Craig Button picked two teams, one in the West and one from the East, to land Patrick Kane- he picked the Rangers and the Flames, citing our desperate need for a scoring RW.
I get constant notifications from “nhl trade rumors” on my phone. Today, they suggested the Flames as one of 3 teams to land Sam Reinhart. A few weeks ago, they floated Ivan Barbashev as a Flames target.
Tarasenko seems to be often linked to us in the rumor mongering world as well. Like I said, nothing concrete, and not the strongest sources.

I can't see Kane accepting a trade to the Flames. He will either want to go to a sure-fire contender, or a team that will boost his stats so he has more negotiating power. I doubt he would see the Flames as either unless something major changes between now and the deadline.

I like that Sam Reinhart rumor! After reading your post I was able to find this quote.
While Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff mentioned Zito has a “deal in his pocket” to trade Sam Reinhart and/or Sam Bennett, there is nothing in the works and how the team approaches the deadline has not been decided.
There would be no reason not to believe that BT has already presented the panthers with a deal for Reinhart.
Did Reinhart play with Huberdeau or was it mainly Duclair?

To be fair, even Button inferred that Kane probably wouldn’t be interested. I agree, I don’t see him opting to come here, and the cap hit would be impossible to manage.

Not to crap on the Flames but if one of the choices is NYC and his former teammate Panarin, well, yeah he's probably going there. You could put any team in the Flames spot. The Rangers would still probably be his choice.

I don’t think they played together regularly, he was with Barkov I believe.

Forget Reinhart. We should acquire Huberdeau’s old line mate Sam Bennett.
Bennett - Kadri - Huberdeau
Dube - Lindholm - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Sam Bennett is the answer. Plays centre, plays wing, can play PP and PK. Hits. Fights. Plays with an edge and stands up for his teammates.
100% Sam Bennett. Get Sam Bennett.
