IMO if there is a team out there willing to take on Markstrom's contract without a huge add at this point, we would be fools for not attempting to complete that. Whether Markstrom would waive is an entirely different question.

And then piss off Lindholm by doing so and then who ever else after Lindholm walks in a year? I would rather groom Wolf under a proven goaltender and collect a kings ransom for Vladar. Vladar is very good and cheaper but not at the expense of disrupting the dressing room.
Consider this lots of people want to let Markstrom go because your expectations are very high for him and why is that? Cause he was the runner up for the Vezina last year.

I disagree and think there is a better chance Markstrom bounces back than Vladar and Wolf being a capable and reliable NHL tandem at this time. One more year I think this is a legit conversation so may as well hope Markstrom bounces back and increases his value so a good trade can be made and not trying to dump him when we have no idea of what we have can carry the load

I don't think they can responsibly be a buyer this season anymore. This season's outcome is a coin flip between hanging on to a wildcard spot or 9th/10th in the conference. A forward looking management group would try to sell on UFAs in this position.

I don't think he's going to be attractive to another team until the 2024/25 season when his salary drops from $8 million to $3.5 million with a $2.5 million signing bonus. I don't see a big appetite for GM's to take on his contract next season where he gets paid $8 million given his results this year.

LOL at those pinning for Domi. Given his recent surge you're going to pay a premium to get Toffoli lite. If you're getting in for a third rounder knock your socks off, and stash him on the bottom three lines. But we know that won't happen, so once again you pay a premium to get a flavour of the month. No thanks. I'd rather ride this existing team out and make a decision in the off-season if they should keep going for it or sell assets. Paying high prices for pieces who have had mediocre results isn't what this team can afford to do.

I just don’t see any path forward where they’re “selling assets”
1. They just extended Darryl Sutter
2. They just signed a number of the most lucrative contracts in organizational history
There is no rebuild on the near horizon. We are where we are.

Fair, but as I said months ago, the team is suddenly aging, and fast. Making the mistake of saying we've done all these moves and we should continue doing so is classic sunk cost fallacy. Gotta see what's best for now and the future. I don't think now is the best time to add.

I certainly don’t disagree. I just don’t see it happening.

Markstrom is not going anywhere. Vladar or Wolf are after next season.

Deadline is also not tomorrow or next week...a lot depends on how the next while goes
6-2-2 in their last 10
Points in 14 of 18
Seems they might be trending up

Suddenly aging? time hasn't sped up; this teams age was pretty obvious to everyone before the season started, I would hope. This teams future core is already determined, there is no wait till next year option for them.

And what UFA's on the Flames could bring more than a coke and a bag of chips?

Our window is 2-3 years, we have to go all in this year and next for sure, I’d love another Toffoli, he’s been our most consistent forward this season

Window? What window? If they had a window it was last year and has now closed.

The window where we’ve had a decent amount of prospects come into the show and enough top-end talent to theoretically compete. Which is probably the next 2-3 years. Like the poster you quoted just said.

This team has the ability to bounce back to being a 100+ point team again next season and challenge for the division. All it would take is Markstrom and Huberdeau bouncing back.
They are also not out of the picture this season either.

I guarantee they will be a 100 point team next year and Markstrom returns to form. Every other year seems to be great for this organization.
