We gave to the same amount of high danger chances in regulation against the worst team worst offensive team in the league. It was 12-11 after regulation which is the exact same as the playoffs.

This performance comes right after the coach said we need to be a better defensive team and shore up the goals against.

That’s because they had a bad game. I seen it with my eyes. Fact is, a lot of posters in here don’t realize that’s going to happen over an 82 game schedule a few times.

I sunk a few thousand for my upcoming trip to Calgary. The other game that I'm going to go watch is against Vegas

Sutter… come on, man… Wtf?
Did he also not say they didn't skate in the morning but the Flames twitter has pictures of them skating or was oh optional?

Maybe this is the best thing that could of happen for this 5 game road trip!

Most fans wanted a few line-up changes but they were playing better so status quo.

They got a point, Sutter was hot under the collar so this would be the time to send a message and team will want to erase this lackluster performance by taking care of business against the Blues twice!

Last 2 games they got 3 points.
But let's say they would have lost to the Isles int OT 4-3 but played well. Then beat Chicago 4-1 to get the same 3 points. We all know that there would have been a good chance that the line-up would have stayed the same.

Now at least chances of a line up change is higher!

Sutter has identified the problem, the young guys. rucizka, brutal on the OT winner. Dube, what were you doing on the first goal, bad pinch by Manj on the 3rd goal.

The only positive last night was the two PP goals. St. Louis will be a tough test for this group. I hope Magi and Markstrom both take a night off.

I have been trying to avoid the rollercoasters of PGT and GT threads lately. Trying not to get to high or too down on the team. The team continues to be inconsistent from game to game - I don't think we're at Geoff Ward levels of inconsistency - so I think that has been good to me.

But my goodness, what a boring hockey team to watch. I think this is the worst part. I can avoid the Internet, but it is truly a chore to watch my favorite hockey team play. I don't get excited to get home to turn the TV on anymore. I don't get excited watching the team prefer refrigerator size over skill. It just feels like there is nothing to get excited about for this organization, and there won't be for a long time.

That's the worst of it for me. They're an entertainment product that isn't very fun to watch or cheer for this season. I don't really blame Treliving for that. He did what was an admirable job of recovering after the most entertaining player of the last decade walked, but the new guys just haven't been much fun and haven't played like top players, and the team has looked a lot like a mediocre bubble team that is all too familiar to long-term fans.

They've been trending up recently, but still not looking like more than a first round exit kind of team, which is just hard to care about when they're also boring and guys who are supposed to be the main attractions aren't that fun to watch. Put that together with the NHL's issues with officiating and the product is sometimes just a bummer. Even Sutter's post-games aren't as fun to watch as they used to be in these circumstances.

January 7, St. Louis lost to Montreal 5-4 and Carolina lost to Columbus 4-3 in SO
January 4, Dallas lost to Anaheim 2-0
January 1, Buffalo lost to Ottawa 3-1
December 31, Los Angeles lost to Philadelphia 4-2

Aaand the list goes on. Yeah, good teams beat bad teams but this is sports and everything can happen. Even Boston has been beat by bad teams, such as Arizona and Ottawa (Sens have won both their games against Boston).
I'm not trying to be super optimistic or make up excuses, team was not playing great last night, but some of you saying that good teams don't lose to bottom feeders is just not true.
Ok, I am now ready for the shtstorm. Bring it

This was always going to be the case when they brought back Darryl Sutter. When things are going good and the team was winning his methods are tolerable but when the wins aren't coming and Darryl starts doubling down on what he thinks is best, things can get really ugly. Now that he's starting to have influence on the makeup of the roster it looks like he's trying to rebuild the 2004 team for 2023. It's a slow, plodding, perimeter shooting, dump and chase team. The only hope is that they make the playoffs and can slow down faster, more talented opposition.

For whatever reason, Flames have as much trouble against the bottom six teams (4-4-0) than the top six teams (3-4-2) in the league.

The rest, 24 gp 12-6-6 = ,625 PP% which is 10th in the league.

They have 13 games left against top 6 or bottom 6 so about 13 points.
They have 28 games against the rest so roughly 35 points.

Which would put them at 96 pts in Squiggs Snek territory!

Trying to be positive!

Oh man ... based on what?

Slow, plodding, perimeter based team?

They can't finish and they don't generate enough ten bell chances, but they're metrics suggest they carry the play most nights, and have more going that just shot volume.

This isn't Jacque Demers trap hockey at all.

Why the narrative?

3rd in CF60
2nd in CA60
9th in SCF%
6th in expected goal splits

They're biggest issues are not generating enough high danger (15th for / 7th against) and a 24th ranked shooting percentage.

I guess some see what they want to see.

I don't see it as being about Sutter. He coached a very fun team last season. I think it's just a matter of the change in players with less entertaining guys coming in and a lack of the same kind of chemistry as they used to have on offense.

Twice as many posts in the PGT for losses as wins, that's the new CP norm.

Markstrom wasn't ready to play last night - like the whole team - and they dug themselves a hole. They managed to work their way out of it, so there's that.

I thought Huberdeau and Kadri were good again. I am not a Lucic basher but he was terrible offensively last night, he brought several good shifts for the line to an abrupt end. They have to do something about this - they just can't leave Lucic on a line with their best players.

Remind me where they sit in the standings Bingo because all that stuff you listed means absolutely nothing. They are slow, they are a perimeter shooting team and they look just like the Kings teams that missed the playoffs in the back half of his tenure there and remember even the cup winning teams weren't regular season juggernauts. The margins are simply slim with his coaching. Goaltending has to be very good and shooters very opportunistic or every game is a struggle. The plus of all this is that they are more prepared for playoff hockey where things don't come as easy because they are used to having to scratch and claw to win games. They need to ensure they get there to reward fans for sticking with this kind of hockey. It's not pretty but fans will accept it as long as it's effective in generating wins.

Shooters don't have to be opportunistic they have to be average...also who the heck wins with bad goaltending?
