The Flames have 22 total losses this season. They’ve lost by 1 goal 15/22 times. 2 of the other 7 were losses by 2 goals with an empty net goal against. So only 5/22 losses were not down to the wire.

I know everyone has high expectations but the Flames are in a playoff spot and they’re not playing bad hockey.

Well, you could tell Sutter was riled up after the 3rd goal. The weird doors to the locker room close and need steps, and he pushed the door open to get someone to get Vladar out and glares at the equipment man who has to sit behind there.

Body language from Makstrom was terrible not even trying to slide across. And that was a terrible pinch from Hanifin and Lindholm didn't cover the point very well.

He definitely sees something wrong, that some players cruised after an Isles win and without a practice since, assumed today would be a cake walk.

Flames seem to be quite comfortable playing 5 on 5 one goal games, you know, the stuff that actually happens in the playoffs.

People put way too much stock in what happens in overtime/shootout. It's a tiebreaking scenario that really isn't real hockey. It obviously sucks to lose this many but it's not indicative of some bigger problem that people are determined to make a thing.
Well if you are winning 19 of 41 games you can feel great playing 5v5 but you will have a hard time playing that in the playoffs because you won't qualify. Especially when you can't beat garbage teams.

Almost wondering if they sit Lucic to get Pelletier in with some more offensive players. He has been generating offence lately but I’m guessing they aren’t looking to pencil Pelletier in as a checker. Duerr probably fits that role better.

They do like to stick the newbies with Backlund though.

Mangiapane can’t score to save his life but he is generating offence (shots).

They should get 8 out of 6 points.

They are in a playoff spot in points and points percentage right now.

But go on and tell me how their current record right now won’t get them into the playoffs.

It’s a points league. They are doing it the hard way by scraping and clawing but they’re in the fight and playing a lot better than November and October. It’s not as fun as last year, not even close but they’ll be there in April.

I’m convinced people like you have never followed a hockey season in its entirety before, based on how you post.

Flames have points in 14 of 18?
their worse than expected place in the standings isn't due to recent play

Can’t believe Sutter said they were lucky to get the point, noting they didn’t skate yesterday because the Harlem Globetrotters were in their building

Flames have practiced at public rinks like Winsport

An org with an 80 million dollar payroll can’t find 200 bucks to get some ice, rather play victim to the scheduling of the Globetrotters?

Sutter… come on, man… Wtf?

The Flames aren't a garbage team like some make it seem. They're just not good either. They will make the playoffs, they just won't be a threat to anyone. It's like some are making it sound like this team could compete for a up while others think they're a lottery team.

Everyone is right, it just depends on the night. Not bad, not good. Won't draft high, won't win much.

I wouldn't alternate goalies every game. I would play a goalie until he loses, when he does put in the other guy. Markstrom isn't playing bad, but Vladar earned a longer rope.

That being said, goaltending is not why they lost. Players like Mangiapane hitting the goalie in the crest from prime scoring areas is why we lost.

Dube and Mangiapane were noticeably bad.

Okay, after sleeping on it, I am ready to put this one behind, even though it was shameful to resemble a team like the Oilers.
What consolates me is that I know Sutter is going to hold these guys accountable and they will most likely come flying the next game. Blues also lost a game which they should've won (vs Habs), so they will be angry too.
Positives? Huby and Kadri, Mangi line, Vladar, 2 PP goals. Yeah, that's about it. Though the list is short, I will not wallow the outcome of this game. Sht happens and so many things can throw players off their game like getting sick, sleep poorly, stress, etcetc. Just stupid mistakes.
It is a damn shame that they didn't take advantage of the schedule and grab those 2 points to gain gap between Oilers.

3 goals on 11 shots.
.727 save %
GAA of 9.00
Save 1 of those 3 goals and it doesn't go to OT.

I wish they scored more too but markstrom was bad.

They let Max Domi skate around them like he was Connor McDavid. I'm not sure how any Flames fans could just shrug their shoulders and think that things are getting better. This was a ghastly performance against the worst team in the league.

I have watched plenty of seasons but you go on with your shtick of being the smartest guy in the room.

That's great it's a points league you don't get points in the playoffs. We can't even beat Chicago a team full of scrubs. They let a bum like Max Domi skate all around them but go on about how thats ok because we got a point. Allowing 12 high danger chances against grinders and can't even create more even though we has 45 shots. Yeah it's becoming a troubling trend.

They don’t play 3 on 3 in the playoffs, or have shootouts either. They’re a decent team 5 on 5. Not too worried about it.

losses like last night make it hard to be emotionally or financially invested in this team this season
