Markstrom made those plays look harder than they were IMO.
1st isnt a bad goal off the deflection but Markstrom loses his edge and net for the tap in.
2nd goal is a horrible rebound by Markstrom kicked right to where it cant go. If hes playing confident and big in his net he should gobble that right up.
3rd is tough to fault a goalie on a 2-1 but Kurashev shoots that back across the net, so if Markstrom actually tries he migth save it

Disappointing obviously but not the disaster some making it out to be. There are still some forwards that need to be quite a bit better.

We have no idea how Vladar would do as a starter and know even less about Wolf in the NHL

I didn't hang out in the game thread but some of these comments are worse than the game itself. Some people here have become very reactionary. We lost an overtime but it's not like we didn't have some chances we just didn't capitalize on them.

We definitely could succeed with 60% Vladar and 40% Markstrom.
However once we wrap up our playoff positioning I want to see Wolf in a few games to end the season.

One reason would be that one of those guys has no nhl experience

Two goalies who have never played close to a full NHL season. Begging for trouble.

I think that as flat as your guys came out, salvaging a road point, mid season, in a trap game, isn't the worst result your guys could have had

Overreaction or not, the Flames penchant for fumbling the bag when they are given a strong opportunity to win is going to be what keeps them clawing for their playoff lives instead of sitting comfortably in a playoff position.
This is one that is going to sting for a lot of fans. They should have won, period. They didn't practice yesterday and this morning and then proceeded to make a ton of mental errors in the first period and ultimately gave it away in OT. Tough game.

Literally every other team in the league is patient and smart with the puck in OT. If your only offensive option is to take a garbage shot on net 1-on-2, then feel free to whip the puck back into the neutral or defensive zone, or even fire it back to Vladar to reset. So stupid.
|
What other team in the league starts with two Dmen in OT? Just stupid. Our best offensive players never even got a chance in OT.

A bunch of shots into gloves pads and the chest tonight shot volume made it look like we dominated but Chicago took it to us in terms of high danger play.

This isn’t a video game. You can’t just magically make Markstrom and his contract disappear even if you wanted to let it all ride on Wolf and Vladar..
It’s not even a realistic discussion. Bring it up in the off season.

Eat bread. He may never score again. How on earth are you an NHLer when you are alone in the slot like that and shoot it into Stalok's chest?

What bothers me is Vladar had clearly earned more starts than he is getting. Starting Markstrom today was stupid.

Reasonable, you hope most of your losses allow you to salvage a point.. But I would say given where Flames are in the standings, there are no more trap games.

You look at the OOT tonight and see teams taking care of business against teams they should beat...
and then you look at the Flames.

Goalie is an extremely fickle position. The amount of goalies who are good every year are extremely rare. Alot of people get stuck on Markstrom because of what he gets paid but at the end of the day its proven fact Vladar has better numbers against tougher opponents this season. And the team overall performs better in front of him. I think Vladar definetely deserves to get a string of games and a chance to take the helm. Hes earned it.
