I don't think it's too much to expect him to at least be leading the team in points, convincingly at that. Of course point production should be judged relative to the rest of the team, but even with the being considered, he has been unable to do the heavy lifting.

But I agree, he has been better lately, so let's see where it goes.

Uh, he’s carrying Lucic up and down the ice every night right now. That is the heaviest lifting possible on this team.

He’s certainly not producing enough for a $10.5M winger, but he is producing enough and playing well enough for a $5.9M player.

We all just have to hope that the team addresses the roster problems up front next year and we’re not paying a guy $10.5M to put up 60 points while playing with a 4th winger. We need to add another top-tier player up front. It’s an absolute must.

Is Huberdeau a 100 point player going forward? He probably is but he wont be under Darryl Sutter and thats not a knock on Darryl, its pretty much how its been during his coaching tenure in the NHL. All the Kings players won under Darryl, but had career years after he left. Jarome won under Darryl but had career years after we had different coaches.
People criticize Darryl but you look at last year and the big numbers guys put while being very reliable defensively. I don't think anyone was expecting Hubey to put up a 115 points this season or even a 100 points especially while adjusting to a new team but even people out of Florida have said he is not that type of game breaker, elite player even at his best but the flames will be paying him elite money. That is game changer money and you better be a difference maker and be able to take over a game and that is not him. This is a knock on Tre and not the payer. The effort has been there and sometimes probably trying to hard but he is what he is.A very good player but just not close to a 10.5 mil player.

I don't know what to say honestly of you don't think he's not a elite player. He's been flirting with 100 points prior to last season and gets 115 points in a non contract year.

I see a player with elite vision and passing. He might not have the speed of Johnny but he's bigger and plays better along the walls.

If Florida stuck Johnny with Bennett and Duclair do you think he gets a 115 points? A guy carrying two guys who never even close to the numbers they had.

Playing with Lucic has been a more recent development, and ironically, it actually seems to have helped his production, but that line has only been together for 8 games. He played more time with Lindholm and Toffoli (27 games), a combination that was 91st in expected goals for. When Dube was put on that line, it moved up to 32nd.

Somewhat unexpected, but the best line in the NHL, by a good margin, when it comes to expected goals for and against, is the Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman line. Ruzicka-Backlund-Coleman is 9th.

But Huberdeau has played with that very same #1 center in Elias Lindholm along with the team’s leading goal scorer in Tyler Toffoli and in both stints, they looked absolutely abysmal together. So, in my opinion, Sutter did try stacking the deck and it failed.

Ironically, Lucic has been the most productive linemate for Huberdeau which isn’t even crazy. Looch himself has played the majority of his career with skilled players and that’s because he can think the game at their level and can do the dirty work that star players don’t like to do.

I think the bellyaching about Lucic needs to stop. The guy is at his best when he’s playing a support role with skilled players. He’s not the type of player who can drive a line by himself (even the 4th line) which is probably why he found himself out of the lineup, but if he can find linemates who can disguise his substandard skating, then he can be effective in breakouts, transitions, puck retrievals, keeping pucks alive and being a strong net front presence.

Huberdeau would also have about 10 more points if his linemates had some finish. Jets game is a perfect example he set up Weegar with a wide open net and he flubbed.

The Huberdeau slander is perplexing. 7 million complimentary player no individual skill to win 1 on 1 battles isn't elite.

For two years Johnny and Tkachuk looked like complete ass but all of sudden they are the greatest to ever do it. Those guys tore it up on contract years in the regular season. Cashed in. Huberdeau is making 5.9 million this season.

Plain and simple we are lucky to have Huberdeau. We could have no one.

What are you talking about? They had highs and lows but neither had a season where they looked like complete ass. Tkachuk didn't have a great bubble season but 43 points in 56 games in the NHL is not ass. Even Johnny's worst seasons weren't far from being a point a game.

Suffice to say that half way into his first season as a Flame, Huberdeau has played below expectations. For someone who is going to be soon making 10.5M, you'd expect that kind of player to be the line driver and the player who makes his line mates better. As a whole, he hasn't shown anywhere near the type of skill or IQ to be that kind of player so far.

And for me, that is quite shocking. If you normalize his numbers in Florida, he's a 73pt player. And if you look at this last 5years, he's a 93pt player. All of this was under four different coaches (Gallant, Boughner, Quinnville, Brunnette). So it's hard to say that Sutter's system is holding him back, especially when Gaudreau and Tkachuk both put up 100pts+ last year. You would have to go back to the 14/15 season when he was 21years old to find the last time he had a lower PPG than he's currently at.
You can point to adjustment period, but look at Gaudreau and Tkachuk. Gaudreau is at a PPG pace playing with Nyquist and Jenner and Tkachuk is currently tracking for 106pts with Barkov and Verhaeghe. With the exception of Barkov, Huberdeau has been put with better players (ex Lucic since that was a recent phenomena.)
The line combinations we've tried with him this year are also better than those he put up 115pts with (mainly Bennett and Duclair). The whole thing is just odd.

The only person who can turn this around is himself. It's not so much on the coaches, system or line mates. At the end of the day, he's got to deliver. The team is doing just OK right now, but think of how much better we would be if Huberdeau was taking over games the way Gaudreau and Tkachuk did. Here's hoping he really turns it around the next half of the season, although I'm not so optimistic based on what we've seen so far.

Theh racked up a bunch of points against Vancouver after we had nothing to play for and many people thought that would happen.

When the games mattered neither provided the type of magic we got last season. Tkachuk checked out after that puck flip game.

Once again Tkachuk and Gaudreau already decided they would leave long before the offseason.

Huberdeau has zero desire or intention of leaving Florida and was under the impression he was going to be negotiating a extension.

Much easier to fit in when you checked out in May and long before that likely.

Harder to adjust when you are blindsided and this wasn't what you wanted. Yes it was July but it doesn't hit you until you actually show up to a new city and surroundings.

Imagine playing half the season and having the same number of goals as Lewis and only 1 more than Ritchie. Or having the same PPG as Ruzicka who gets less ice time with the same or lower quality line mates.

It’s not slander, it’s a fact.Huberdeau has not been great and looks more like a secondary supporting player at this point.

If he does, he’ll find out the price tag is a lot more than the 3rd round pick some are hoping.

Love that they put a condition on one of the second-rounders four years from now. Got that squared away.
