Looking at the lineup in the off-season and pre-season, everything looked great, with the assumption that Pelletier made the team - the entire 4 lines looked solid. Unfortunately, he didn't, and the lineup has looked one body short, all year.

IMO, everything comes together, if Pelletier makes the jump:

Dube - Lindholm - Toffoli
Pelletier - Kadri - Huberdeau
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic / Ruzicka / Lewis / Ritchie / Zohorna

Whether it happens this year or not, I think Pelletier is a perfect player for that line: quick, tenacious, can forecheck, responsible defensively, and can contribute offensively

I am excited to see Pelletier but also expecting to not see him at all.

Duehr will get in before Jakob 100%

I really hope that Pelltier gets his shot, but he needs to show up in it. 200 foot game and a point or 2! NbD

Yeah, huge no to anything to do with acquiring Josh Anderson. Four more years after this one on that contract for a guy with 13 points in 37 games.

This doesn't happen without Sutter "okay-ing" the call up. And this is after two terrible training camps by Pelletier when he was given all the opportunity to take a roster spot but disappointed, so don't tell me Sutter doesn't give his young players a chance. He needs to be ready this time!

Regarding Pelletier...

It isn't so much the case that Pelletier is the right guy for Kadri's line (even though I think he would be great there), it is that he rounds out the top 9 - they are one top 9 winger away from having 9 guys that are fit for the 3 lines. Take your pick how you want to run the lines and who plays with who, though I think things are settling well as they are.

I know some will argue that Ruzicka should be there, but I am not convinced. First, I really like him as the 4th line C, because I think he elevates the line, but also, I think he is perfect as the 'extra' top 9 guy, because he can sub in effectively, but he doesn't seem to be able to maintain his level of play when slotted in every night.

An offensive issue I've identified with Calgary in the games of theirs I've tracked is that they hold onto the puck in the OZ for long stretches but generate bad shots off the cycle. Too much from the perimeter. Stone, Hanifin, Weegar, and Zadorov are all among the top 64 D in shots rate. That's four D spread across all three of their regular pairs. For me, a perimeter shot by a defenceman is a failed offensive sequence. It rarely results in a goal.
I think he is spot on with this. The Flames get lots of offensive possession, but often take the puck wide around the perimeter. Guys go to the net, but the wide guy rarely tries to get the puck to them in front. Instead, it's always the safe pass to the point, and a shot from the blueline (or dumped back in the corner to do it all again).

IMO, the Flames need to force the puck into the middle of the ice more. The bodies are there (usually), they just refuse to do it. I suspect that the mantra is possession, and the safe play. Great, except the result is that they never get that set up in front.

I would love to see Pelletier get in for a few games to see how close he is to maybe starting next season.

I think the high danger area generally comes from individual skill ... beating someone off the wall and creating an odd man chance in the scoring area.

Not sure the Flames have that individual skill to pull it off.

Tkachuk and Gaudreau had it. Don't think Huberdeau and Kadri do.

Dube and Backlund have some of it.

Pelletier has played 97 games in the AHL and has 96pts. The Flames picked him in the 1st round and have been slowly grooming him for a top 6 spot on the big club. I think he will/should be given a long look with Kadri and Huberdeau our highest paid veteran forwards. I also do not think they will gift him that spot as there should be a competition between Pelletier and Ruzicka for that spot. When Ruzicka gets the look then Deuhr gets a spot on the 4th line.

The other 3 lines are pretty solid and this is the missing piece. Give it a long look and if it still isn’t clicking by March 1 then a trade must be made if this team is firmly in a playoff spot. Hopefully the answer is from within. It would be nice to inject some youth on the forward group. It would be fantastic if Pelletier and Kylington could be internal adds and this team can save some assets

Walker Duehr in his D+8 year gets the call up. Hopefully Pelletier sees some action.
