Good game. Nice to not have a nail biter all the time. Zad this year is a pleasure to watch. Way more confidence and playing with Stone just makes me appreciate it a little more. Eat bread is painful to watch

Solid W.
That plus he got the early run support. He made the same saves as he has in previous games but with a three goal lead. Plus they have been giving him some lesser shots to handle early on - not the 2 on 1s and breakaways after 5 minutes of zero shots.

His glove hand seems to be improving for sure.

Now Flames just gotta get their Power Play figured out. If they can score goals even strength or shorthanded, surely they can figure out how to do it when when they have the man advantage. They play way to slow and content currently.
Well put.

Markstrom made the saves we needed when we needed them, exactly what you want him to do.

The powerplay though...woof...They've got to be faster and crisper. They have to move the puck faster, think faster, cycle faster and shoot faster.

They telegraph every move...its no wonder nothing is getting through.

I’ve been asking for the low back door or one timer for a while. usually they spend too much time at the points or the half wall. Tonight they weren’t even given that space though (hence the breakways).

Missed the game tonight. Stats make it seem it was relatively even but Flames with the better finish. Nice to see.

Isles blew their best opportunities (or Markstrom saved them). Calgary didn’t for a change. A couple really nice Isle chances they shot wide or lost the puck.

I do wonder if Kadri had an injury that was bugging him.

Has a bit more jump this past week after some actual days off with only 5 games in 14 days.

He is such a beast. Like a ton of dmen look over their shoulders when Looch is barreling down on them and a lot of them just give him the puck.

I hope Sutter rests him a bit though because he is playing way too much. He was so gassed last year near the end of the season and the playoffs.

So how many Oilyfans complaint posts in the ATL about how we were playing a tired Isles team on a back to back?

I would say 50+ but then Gaskal would be up all night. 6!

I only saw a few minutes of the game, but what I did see leads me to believe they really need to put a lot of work in practice dedicated to the PP. Not a threat right now, and it needs to be.

That is completely and patently untrue!

The Flames powerplay is very much a bonafide threat! To the Flames...

We gave up so many odd man chances and shorthanded chances. I think there was one powerplay where they got as many, but better, shots on goal than we did.

'Twas grim...

It makes ZERO sense not to change it up. We are 40 games into the season.

but, but, but that was due to NYI's 3rd ranked pk in the league!... lol

If Markstrom doesn't save both those breakaways we are for sure headed to OT.

Lucic and the 4th line were good, just as Paulie predicted. Haha

Team is playing good. Looking like they will be a hard team to play against when things tighten up and in the post season. Nice to see Markstrom contribute again.

We could have lost that in regulation in Markstrom doesnt make those saves on the breakaways.

Lose all momentum and put all the wind in their sails?

He's supposed to make those saves, its why he's there. I'd say on an average penalty shot its probably a 50/50 split between shooter and goalie.

On a breakaway the odds are a lot more nebulous, it could be more to the shooters favour depending on where he receives the puck, how much speed he gets and where the nearest defender is.

Or it could be far, far more in favour of the goalie because the shooter has to corral the puck, settle it, all at speed and still have enough room and wherewithal to make a play and get a shot off.

Either way though, the value of those saves from Markstrom cannot be overstated.

I've been as hard if not harder on Markstrom than most, but those saves were clutch.
