looks like Sutter has still learned nothing from last year about burning out the goalie

at least they're unlikely to see the second round for that to be an issue

Poor Bruins I guess they're doomed as they haven't beaten anyone above them!

WTF you talking about? they last played on Tuesday...every number one goalie in the league would start Tuesday then Friday.

I could see if the Flames played Saturday, but they don't.

I don't know if you noticed lately but several posters just want to complain about what Sutter does no matter what.

And that time is taken from Ruzicka, and no other players.

Just isn't an issue bro ...

The fourth line hasn't been a black hole of late, that's my point.
So when Lucic is on the 4th line its a black hole?

Now Lucic elevated to the 2nd line and their metrics have taken a hit?

We lost the last game because we couldn't find that next goal, if you have a placeholder in the lineup tonight would be the ideal time to make a change no?

I just don't think he wants to change any of the lines right now.

They're out playing teams nightly.

I do think Ruzicka takes that spot at some point, not sure what the timeline is between Sutter's ears.

But it's not the issue. That small change doesn't create a goal a game, might create a goal / month.

If Markstrom were playing as well as he did last year I'd be concerned about over use given how last year ended. This season? He needs to play more to get that game fine tuned. And we have the All Star break coming up. Vladar will be called upon more down the stretch, especially if Markstrom doesn't fully regain his form.

He’s not going to get burnt out. It’s a little different situation right now. Markstrom sucked for the first part of the season but is now turning his game around. Of course Markstrom is going to play the lions share of the games for now. I’m a big Vladar fan but we still need Markstrom rolling.
Besides him being burnt out last year is just a cop out. His confidence cratered and his game fell off a cliff. Imo, it had nothing to do with getting burnt out. All between his ears.

Last year, Markstrom started 63 games, which I thought was too many.

This year, he is on pace to start 57, which is better. I would prefer 50-55, but that's not a big difference.

with only 2 games this week, no surprise Markstrom is in the net.

I look at these referees and I don't know most of them, but I figure they all hate the Flames anyway

I vehemently disagree.

Look at each players scoring rates prior to the puzzling decision to allocate Ruzicka's minutes to Lucic (who had just been benched)..

Ruzicka : 3.47 points/60
Lucic : 0.89 points/60

The coach exchanged by far his most productive even strength point producer for by far his worst, and is left publicly voicing his displeasure about his teams lack of production recently.

You play in a tight game like we did Tuesday and can't find that goal and keep trotting out Lucic that is not going to get it done against better team. Might work against Anaheim and San Jose as it did, but we need better.
Ha, you were the one arguing that strength of schedule didn't matter

and we had actually been agreeing a lot lately

A 2 page GDT and Paulie has hijacked it into another manifesto of him being smarter than anyone in hockey. Let him go. I have.

This was posted yesterday — apparently the Flames are the only Canadian team that doesn’t do a land acknowledgment before games: https://calgary.citynews.ca/2023/01/...knowledgement/

It never occurred to me to do one, and I didn’t know that other Canadian teams did so. Thoughts? Seems like something that is “easy” to rectify.

It's literally the bare minimum in terms of TRC.

Looks pretty bad that the Flames are the only Canadian time that don't do it.

(one could argue that it's entirely fitting that the Flames don't do it via several different vectors as it relates to settler capitalism and resource extraction but that's another topic for another day and probably not online )
