NY Islanders at Calgary

The Flames have been part of a league-high 24 one-goal games, in which they have posted a disappointing 10-7-7 record. Hurting Calgary's cause is a team-wide 8.7 percent shooting rate, ahead of only the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks, who are 30th and 32nd in the overall league standings.

As tough as it has been for the Flames to score goals, they believe better days are ahead.

"The last few weeks, we've been playing the way we want," said center Nazem Kadri, who was selected to the All-Star Game on Thursday. "Obviously, we could have played a little bit better the last couple games, but sometimes that's how it goes. You've got to regroup, reset and get ready to get a big win (on Friday)."

Along the way, the Flames are looking for another element in their game: emotion. The disappointment of dropping the game in Winnipeg could be much-needed fuel in that regard, with a few players believing they let slip away a game they should have won.

Calgary takes on New York in a non-conference matchup

BOTTOM LINE: The Calgary Flames and the New York Islanders hit the ice in a non-conference matchup.

Calgary has gone 11-7-2 at home and 18-14-7 overall. The Flames have allowed 115 goals while scoring 118 for a +3 scoring differential.

New York has gone 10-10-2 on the road and 22-15-2 overall. The Islanders have a +22 scoring differential, with 126 total goals scored and 104 given up.

Didn't see the game last night between the Oilers & Isles, but I suspect coming off the loss they'll look like world beaters tonight. Still winnable.

I was actually surprised how terrible they were against the Oilers. The game was pretty well over before the halfway mark of the game. I don't expect they will be tired tonight given their effort level last night.

The Lucic in the top 6 nerds to end now. If we are trying to win games paying mind games and sending messages save that crap for the pre season and the early part of the year.

Either remove Ruzicka from the lineup if you can't motivate him and call someone up or bench Lucic but stop putting him in the to 6.

They reminded me of Sharks at times. Hopefully they will keep that up

Since the Islanders didn't bother to play in Edmonton, tiredness on a B2B won't have any effect whatsoever. I suspect they will show up tonight. Go Flames Go!!!

Will be at this one.

Have had a soft spot for the Isles for a while now. Just a good, honest hard working team.

Go Flames!

Yup beat the bottom feeders like we should and has been your calling card all season the strength of schedule. Now its time to beat the teams above us and we need that extra goal and Lucic isn't going to provide that.

You play in a tight game like we did Tuesday and can't find that goal and keep trotting out Lucic that is not going to get it done against better team. Might work against Anaheim and San Jose as it did, but we need better.

Doesn't take away from your "need to win games" mantra above.

They are winning.

They're also outplaying the opposition on a nightly basis.

At the very least he could shorten the bench in the third.

Last 10 minutes and we need a goal and Ruzicka should be bumped to the second line and Lucic should be stapled to the bench.

But not scoring enough to beat the better teams. That needs to change and Lucic isn't the answer.

If you want to be a playoff team and win in the playoffs you will have to beat the teams above you in the standings. We wont be playing the Anaheim's and San Jose's.

Lucic is a placeholder who is willing to make space and drive the net. No one honestly thinks Looch is a permanent fixture on the second line, do they?

The season is half done. They have lots of time to figure that spot out. Meanwhile they are winning games and playing the right way.

Lucic's placement in the lineup isn't going to change the goal production of the Flames much.

They're clearly thinking the fourth line is less of a black hole with the change which is likely worth a goal per game.

As said ... he won't be there long, but he's certainly not the issue you're making him out to be.

It probably will change the goal production as the team searching for that extra goal a game. Having him playing 15 plus minutes a game takes away icetime from someone who could be scoring on that line.

The 4th line is a blackhole because Sutter plays them, if he uses them as a 4th line we might not get buried as much with them out there.

Ritchie plays 9 min/game (12th among forwards); Lucic plays 11 min/game (11th among forwards). Typical 4th line minutes
Lewis plays 12:45, but ~10 even strength; his PK time bumps him to 9th in TOI among forwards

Sutter does not use his 9, 10, 11, 12th forwards any different than the other 31 teams

He's averaging 13:45 of ice time in the last 8 games compared to 11:25 on the season.

+2:20

And that time is taken from Ruzicka, and no other players.

Just isn't an issue bro ...

The fourth line hasn't been a black hole of late, that's my point.
