Default Flames Mount Rushmore Round Four

Jarome Iginla graduated for face #1.
Lanny McDonald graduated for face #2.
Miikka Kiprusoff graduated for face #3.

Who is face #4?

If I think of any remaining choice as to who has best represented the essence of being a Flame, I have to pick Giordano.

Voted Backlund only because he's still here. And I suspect there is a solid chance he finishes his career here. But I think MacInnis or Gio are likely stronger picks

Still going with Sutter. Nobody has done more to define the identity of the Flames in this century than Sutter has.

MacInnis because I voted for him last round. To me, the 4th should be between Sutter and Kipper. I would go Sutter but understand people choosing Kipper.

If I was voting for the Rushmore of players with the best careers as a Flame, I would probably go:
Iginla
Macinnis
Giordano
Kipper

But for this vote, I am trying to consider players who are most widely associated with the franchise and connected with the fans, including their role in great moments and franchise accomplishments, so I think it's:
Lanny
Iginla
Fleury
Vernon

Going back to Vernon. Stanley Cup winning goalie and arguably could have won the Conn Smythe over MacInnis. Solidified the Flames net through the glory days. If not for Roy, likely would have won the Norris. Is a native Calgarian and is a proud alumni and positive representative of the team.

Toss-up between MacInnis and Vernon, but this argument pushed me to Vernon. This is a players only Mount Rushmore for me. Coaches, owners, team staff etc. could have their own. Fletcher, Bearcat, Darryl, Gulutzan

Voted Joe Nieuwendyk. The most important position and we haven't had a center of his calibre for decades.

I voted a bit based on future potential but Backs could end up being a career flame with longest tenure, most GP and was drafted by the team.

That is so, so rare in todays nhl. That not only warrants a spot on Rushmore but a number retirement as well.

Sometimes these things are about more than just goals or being lucky enough to be on a stacked cup team. Backlund is a career flame, part of the community, loves this team/city, hates our rivals with a passion.

Unquestionably he should be up there. And not at number four. He should be a top 2 selection.

If he retires as a Flame, I would support a number retirement.

Giordano. Just a class act throughout his time with the Flames. MacInnis doesn't even consider himself a Flame. Has said he identifies as a Blue. Not worth the honor.

MacInnis, Sutter, Fletcher, Gio, Backlund, Bearcat, Maher, and Whalen all could make a good argument for this spot in my opinion.

MacInnis accomplishments as a Flame outweigh him saying he is a Blue.

He should be up there.

Its a perfect 3 on 3 team now as well with Kipper in net Iggy and Lanny up front and Al on the backend.

That’s how I went, though I think with the greatest 80s icon, the greatest 2000s icon, and the greatest goaltender, that a coach, GM, or voice of the Flames would round it out really nicely.

To me, if they are to be included, a Flames outsider should know who they are.

That would take out people like Maher and Whalen.

I grew up in Edmonton, and for many years only associated Whalen with Stampede Wrestling. As a kid, I had no idea he had anything to do with the Flames.

I'm actually OK with Kipper making it in as 3rd candidate for Round #3. Still think Fleury should be in the top 3. Round 4 would be like splitting hair between MacInnis and Vernon. I chose MacInnis for his best point shots ever and he actually because a really great D-man that ever wore a Flames uniform.
