They should be proud ... they were easily the second-best team in this tournament IMO. Excellent from Day 1.

To think that they were actually one goal away in OT from winning the Gold and being the best in the world...have they ever done that? It would have been monumental for them and their country, and they almost did it. Especially heartbreaking considering how hard they worked to come back in the 3rd.
I feel for them, I really do.

I never said don't feel for them...the stakes of it all are why we love sports. If nobody cared we wouldn't care either.
These guys are young and many are going on the play in the NHL...we are still old losers on our couches. They should feel bad for us!

Today Canada was the better team but they were the better team the first game.
I’m not saying Canada didn’t deserve to win, but wasn’t like Canada was easily best team this tournament, there is an argument Czechs deserve a better fate too.
The only games they lost in this tournament were 3v3 toss ups.

As Czechia, yes, but the Czechs won back to back golds in 2000 and 2001 and last medaled in 2005.

Didn't notice until the medal line-up but its a bit surprising how white Team Canada is. Would have expected a bit more colour this day and age and at this level.

I like that Bedard and Wright were two of the last to get their medals. I still think Wright turns it around in the NHL.
Did we just screw up the words to the anthem?

statistically Canada was the best team in the tournament
a prelim game doesn't count for much IMO
Czechs are the 2nd best team...that is why they got the 2nd biggest trophy, nothing to sneeze at

I kind of doubt many Czech junior players are focused on their country’s history at a tournament like this.
But watching people this age play at the highest level is refreshing as the essence of the competition is a lot more palpable. It takes the agony of defeat for the joy of victory to mean so much. I have seen my own kids win and lose “big” games over the years and it doesn’t have to be the world juniors for it to hit them hard. I have never regretted that they cared so much about something that losing stung. The Czech players will be just fine and should be very proud.

Not sure that’s true.
Goal difference was pretty equal coming in, and Canada had a lot more success on the PP (14 GF vs 5 GF on PP). I think Czechia had the best even strength numbers in the tournament, both GF and GA.
Both team would have been deserved winners, and can’t help but feel a little bad for Czechia, when it comes down to it it’s 1:1 in the series for these two teams this tournament.
