Heard a disturbingly depressing story about Ovechkins latest trip to Calgary. Bunch of kids on a team with special access to go watch the Capitals practice and meet the team, get autographs. Kids were about 8.
Obviously, guess who they want to see / get signatures from, etc.
From all accounts the guy was just a grade A Dbag, ignored all of them, barely even practiced, skated off without even acknowledging any of them and literally ignored the one kid in an Ovechkin jersey shouting his name.
Meanwhile Caps legend Nick Dowd stopped to sign every kids shirt, flipped pucks to them, stopped to chat. Same with Oshie. Meanwhile Ovechkin sounded like a complete clown loser. Makes millions of dollars to play in NHL, can’t be bothered to even look at a row of kids extremely excited to just be in your presence. Russian Marie Antoinette.

It would be crazy if he pulled it off by then end of next season. Most likely the season after.
Derailed by injury would be the worst case.

I've a heard polar opposite story from a friend who's a Caps fan and whose son loves Ovi, where Ovi went way out of his way to be nice to his kids as just a random fan.

By most accounts he's supposedly a pretty good guy. The mothers of the Habs players were on a road trip with the team and he spent time meeting them. This is pretty neat.

It's a shame the kids didn't get attention from him when they showed up in the case that Mr.Coffee raised, but it's not representative of his track record from what I've heard.

Maybe he had a bad day, or your source has a axe to grind. First time I heard of him snubbing fans, especially kids.
By all accounts, Ovi is a great person. Tons of fan interaction, tons of charitable work. It's just the pesky Putin thing that won't go away.

I said it last season when he was on a similar pace, all accounts of him "maybe" breaking the record were based on his 35+ seasons all being around 30-ish goals. 50 last season made it much more likely -- another 50 or more this season (which he's well on pace for) make it almost a foregone conclusion.

Still so mind bottling that the last five seasons he has 201 goals and counting. The guy in his 32 to 37 years of age has more goals than most players will get in their career.

The Oilers just had a "stand with Ukraine hockey game" here in Edmonton, the emotion coming from these players really opened up my eyes, some of the players are even considering going to the war to defend their country.
Maybe ovie should of attended, by all accounts great with the fans....he can even share with them his pics with Putin that he is so proud of.
Any other person in North America with his current social media context would have been fired from their job if they were in a position of leadership or working for the government

So no empathy or recognition for the fact that as the highest profile Russian athlete in the NHL (perhaps in NA) that ANYTHING he does could put his loved ones in jeopardy.
No recognition of that all eh?

Why does it have to be one over the other? It’s pretty easy to acknowledge the reality of both situations at the same time, it doesn’t create any kind of internal conflict to do so.
As I said before, obsessing over his instagram profile picture is absurd. Changing it would have no tangible positive impact and only a small negative impact.
Perhaps instead of spending your time getting upset about a millionaire’s instagram pic, you could share what you’re doing to help Ukraine and provide some links for the rest of us to contribute? That’d be a more beneficial contribution to the thread than repetitive complaining.
