I guess no team is willing to spend cap space on him. I wouldn't be surprised if a trade is worked out with Detroit taking something back.

Or maybe Detroit is happy he cleared and hope to bring him back at some point.

I wouldn't be surprised with a trade either.

With retention Vrana is still a very intriguing to a ton of teams.

Could we take him on at 50% ?

I'm unclear if teams are allowed to disclose personal issues of their players with other teams.

well, most teams who could use him right now would have to move cap, no?

I don't know either, but, even if it wasn't allowed, I'd suspect the "grapevine chatter" within the community would most likely be extensive.

Wasn't it Huselius that cleared waivers and was then right after traded for, that Sutter loved and utilized? One dimensional, offensive player.

Yeah, that happened. Huselius cleared waivers and then Sutter traded Montador for him right after. It was weird because Montador was a prototypical "Sutter player", and Huselius wasn't.

The Flames really needed some finesse on offense though. I think even Sutter recognizes that sometimes you need skill over toughness. It was also a favour to Montador who was being under utilized due to depth on defense.

Nobody with cap space wants to pick up Vrana, they're going for lottery balls.

Vrana doesn't fit on the team and we don't have the cap space to consider it. You are not gonna put him on the 3rd line for that salary and he isn't an upgrade over anyone in the top 6. We don't need any left shot left wingers right now.

He would be a significant upgrade over Lucic.

Only if Sutter actually plays him in that spot.
I think he likes the physicality that Lucic brings to that line, and that's definitely not something Vrana would bring.

Lucic would have to go the other way. Can’t afford him next year though

The lucic experiment was fun for a couple of games but no way him on 2nd line has longevity. I already think the lucic on 2nd line needs to stop. Not saying we should get Vrana , but we need an upgrade on that line. Granted if I was coach I would put kadri on wing with lindholm down the middle of those 2.

Agree with anyone waving red flags over Vrana. He has always been a big question mark. On top of his game he gives Pavel Bure vibes. The problem is, it never lasts for long. It has been said he has issues with authority, but take it as a rumour. I remember when he came to play for Czech Republic at World Championship. First game he scored two big goals, second game was benched straight from the first line. Not moved down the lineup, straight up benched, and never retained his first line spot. All of this after being branded a star for that team, before the tourney started.
Traded to Wings, started red hot, then got inured and missed almost the entire season. When he was assigned to the PA program, there has been a lot of speculation in czech media about that, since the reason why is not a public info till this day. But it seems like he did not want to go there, it was Red Wings management activating that clause in his contract and forcing him to comply. Again, speculations are that he has some addiction issues. Either light drugs or painkillers. The latter seems more likely, given his injury records.
Too many question marks around him, high cap hit and will be UFA after next season. Probably enough downside for all the GMs to pass, I don't buy into some sort of internal agreement theory. It's bussines after all.
