Right, forgot about that one. I'd love to see that one come to YYC, it's the one Europe route I'd be most interested in.

Actually, part of the overall plan is to go away from the hub and spoke model that was pursued for the last 5 years, and revert back to more point to point flying which was very successful prior.

The comment in this announcement was that YYC would be the main global hub that is the only airport to have structured connection banks.

What that actually means is a good question, as it seems a little contradictory. Sounds like overall more point to point, but still a large hub in YYC.

Hub and spoke is the most efficient for the operation, but point to point is the most attractive as a traveller. So hopefully the schedule sees a good balance of those things.

Air Canada restoring more routes and adding new ones. Among the changes to Asia, YYC-NRT is NOT on the list. Gotta wonder if it will come back at all.

I giant banked hub in Calgary is the most attractive for travellers who live in Calgary...

I can not deal with WestJet's gate operations in Calgary anymore because it is complete ####. As someone that previously worked for WestJet and is very familiar with the operation standards it really pains me to see just bad things have gotten over the last two years. We sat for 25 minutes waiting for our ground crew today and waited another 5 minutes for the gate agent to connect the bridge. It is ridiculous.

Calgary-Tokyo: Japan travel has been to slow to recover due to their restrictions. It will be a while before Air Canada even considers relaunching it, but I don't think it's gone for ever.

WestJet ground crews: They're underpaid and overworked. A third of them called in sick this weekend when the weather hit. The fact that they're able to even sustain the operation is remarkable.

Getting ground crews in-house again can't come soon enough. I've been told they are working on it but I don't know if/when it could happen.

Were they flying into both Haneda and Narita before? As it’s only Haneda now.. Having flown into both, Haneda is closer to Tokyo and with easier domestic connections — Narita has far more international connections tho.

From Calgary and Vancouver it was always just Narita NRT for Air Canada.

(From Vancouver the flights to Haneda HND are with ANA)

But from Toronto, Air Canada has had flights to Haneda HND going back to at least 2016.

From Montreal, it was always NRT.

WestJet has secured slots at Dubai for the summer season. Rumours abound now of a potential YYC-DXB flight to start in March and operate 3x weekly. Also seeing the potential of YYC-Edinburgh too.

What do I know, but I really don’t see the appeal of yet another UK flight option from YYC. UK is probably dead last in places I’d like to visit in Europe. Would love if WS added BCN next summer (assuming it is dropped from YYZ). Dubai in summer seems - interesting……

AC also 'suspending' Nanaimo and Victoria from YYC in 2023. Calgary was never a hub but was a pretty significant focus city for AC, they are really focusing on the three main hubs now it seems.

Has anyone tried logging in to WestJet Rewards lately? I keep getting error messages saying the service is unavailable at the moment and to try later.

I was just wondering if this is something that has been ongoing for some time with perhaps little likelihood of getting rectified any time soon. I have $500+ in my Travel Bank and want to use it towards travel, but can't access it.

I just logged in a couple of days ago, no issues.

Edit…just checked now and isn’t working for me either.
