I wonder what the price would be on Drouin? Pending UFA and once was a solid point producer. I wonder if a change of scenery would help? Could cost something like a 4th or 5th and maybe a low end prospect?

The Flames go bargain shopping but skill wise would upgrade on Lucic on the Kadri line

I don't think this team as the appetite to take on reclamation projects mid season when we are trying to win and need another proven scorer.

That’s a no to Druinn.
And I’m pretty sure he’ll sign a leave minimum type deal with Colorado next year, play with his old line mate Mackinnon and turn into another Nichishkin for them.

I lived in Halifax during the MacKinnon/Drouin days.
I saw them live multiple times and I was so sure Drouin was going to be the better player. I guess that's why I'm not an NHL scout.

Well, a lot of people felt the same way, so don't feel too bad.

Alexis Lafrenière is being thrown around out there as a Trade candidate. Getting some top minutes with a proven playmaker like Huberdeau might be what this kid needs. Not sure what the asking price would be though.

He is still worth a 1st at least especially if it is lower in the round.

He was on New York's top line for a while and pretty much did squat. No thanks.

The funny thing about Lafraniere is he's been given chances. It's not like NY ruined him by burying him down the lineup. He just hasn't taken his game to the next level. He was a bit overrated from the start considering his frame/size and lack of skating capability, but it's really been on him to develop those things. I can't say it's too late but after a certain point you start to stick to your habits and you are who you are. I'm sure if NY were to do it all over again he'd be in the minors developing his skills, but on a team expected to go for it I don't think having him on the team for development purposes is helping him. He really needs to be in a development league to focus on those things he's lacking. I'd take a chance on a pick 20-30, but beyond that in this year I wouldn't bother. I think he is who he is more or less.

Only considering the two players and no additonal context (roster make up).

Dillon Dube for Alexis Lafrenière.. who says no?

He's far closer to a Nail Yakupov than a Connor Bedard. Thumbs down to trading a first for him, especially a 2023 first.

Dube for AL also no. The Flames need all the speed they can get; subtracting in that department would be a mistake.

Seems crazy, but I just don't know. One guy is really starting to show his promise, the other has been very disappointing.

Both Zary and Pelletier are in the middle of their second AHL season, both are sitting at PPG. Think they deserve a legitimate look at the NHL level

No thanks on Laf, the guys been way overrated going back to his draft year. He’s your stereotypical all tools and no toolbox. People here thought Bennett was a huge bust, this guys a Yakupov level of whiff.

Lafreniere has more even strength points than Kadri, huberdeau, and rasmus andersson. I think they'll regret trading him if they do.

We moan about the Flames dev system a lot but the Rangers, they have a far more worrisome one. Something Stinks in the Rangers system. I'd take on Laf at the right acquisition cost.

they don’t really have the future assets to deal for what is almost certainly a rental. I would rather they go bargain shopping than give up a 1st or top prospect for a player that will walk due to the cap crunch coming

Controversial opinion but I would consider trading our first for laf. Likely to be a mid first and hopefully much later than mid. If that's all it takes it would be a great move imo.

I’m not sure why people are so quick to lay judgement.

Look at Nichushkin’s career. Look at Bennett’s.

To just go to “oh well, Yakupov busted”

Sometimes players and organizations just don’t work out together. Players and coaches don’t click, young men have troubles adapting. I still think Yakupov had it in him to be a good NHL’er but the Oilers sewered him.

I’d be really excited to get a player like Laf. Perfect age range to help this team for years to come and balance our old roster with some high end young blood.

Huberdeau - Kadri - Laf? That could be something tasty.

If you aren’t willing to take a risk, you’ll never win anything.
