He's the 5th highest scoring Flame of all time and he played 8 seasons as the team's number one forward. He will 100% for sure get a video tribute, as much as it will irk some of the jilted fans here. I'm confident the majority of fans at the Dome will have enough class to cheer during the tribute. For sure, boo him afterwards all you want.

Not a chance. New Yorkers are already some of the most hostile sports fans in the world when you're on their bad side, and Taveres strung them along in the worst way. Made it seem like there was a chance, so they didn't trade him, but when he went to Toronto it was very clear he was he going there all along.

Do you remember that reception? It was one of the craziest return reactions in sporting history. The guy didn't even make it into warm up without being mercilessly booed, along with a whole playbook of jeers and slogans throughout the game. Gaudreau will be similar to Tkachuk with likely a little more booing during the tribute and a lot more booing when he touches the puck.

Fun to relive it. "Crosby's better!!" "We don't need you" "Please don't trade me!!". It was all gold.

I'll be boooooooooooo ing! He chose to leave the Flames, so he is now the enemy. Furthermore, the way it worked out cost the team in terms of asset management, so he hurt the team in leaving.

I will also try to start a chant of "We - Dont - Need - You!, Clap, Clap - Clap, Clap, Clap"

Even though the truth is we kinda do need him! LOL

I hope it will be worse.

Both Tavares and Gaudreau did their teams dirty. One could argue Gaudreau was worse based on the Flames giving him what he asked for and he still left. I'm not aware of Tavares doing the same.

I'll cheer during the video tribute, otherwise I'm booing the F out of him.

Wow some of those chants are hilarious! Nice final score too. NYI fans deserved that.

Booing was relentless during the tribute.

We need some discussion with what chants would be respectful but appropriate?

I have tickets for that night and cannot wait...

I've never seen that video that was unbelievable.

Have to give them credit for the cohesive chants and continuous booing.

If we can get close to that it would be unbelievable and Johnny pretty much did what Tavares did to the Islanders dragged them along and left.

Anyone remember if Brad and the Owners are happy with me yeah I'll come back.

Flames fans aren't coordinated or fun enough to get stuff like that going, we're more of a cooperate crowd. We got our Go Flames Go, and sometimes a nice Let Go Flames when we're feeling wild and want to change things up.

The fans in the Dome will probably just do the wave.

It would be entertaining if the Dome got that kind of atmosphere going, but it's not really characteristic of the Flames crowds, and I doubt there's really enough hate for that.

Well, 2nd greatest is a real stretch. I assume you put Iggy ahead of him but he also trails a few others in career points as a Flame and he’s only got the second highest single season in points after Nilsson (and his others are nowhere near). And that’s not counting goalies.

Not even a question for me, I'll be cheering. It's tough being a franchise player in Canada because all the pressure falls on the star player's shoulders. To me, Gaudeau took this team as far as he could and ultimately, it was management that failed to build a deep enough roster to put this team over the top. So I don't think the lack of success this team had over the course of his tenure was a direct result of his efforts.

Individually, I never saw a more dynamic player in all my time watching this team. I thank him for all the years of service, the entertainment he provided and the great memories he created. Even when there wasn't much to cheer for, I could always count on him to make a play that got me out of my seat. It honestly sucks that this team didn't get to see more of the Tkachuk/Gaudreau duo, just 1 full season, probably the biggest disappointment of all.

Small market teams have little they can control, but how they act is one of them. If you were a player would you not want to go to a professionally run organization? One that will treat you fairly or more than fair?

I think the players know what went down and why just as much as we do. How the flames react can actually turn into an advantage. A organization that is professional in a great family oriented city. Lots of players want that.

Contrast that with the team up North that just yell McDavid.
You're probably right, but I still don't get why.

If you left any other job the way he did (apparently very dishonest and angering to ownership/management) even if you were one of their best employees ever before that, they wouldn't tribute you, you probably wouldn't even get a decent reference.

People keep saying he was entertaining, one of the best Flames ever which is all true; but how he left surely is part of the equation too, it would be in any other profession.

I don't see how the organization would be any less professional for not giving tribute to a former employee who left under bad terms.
I guess it has become a hockey thing with mandatory fake tributes pretending you want to honor someone everyone knows you really don't.

Because he's important to the fans, and they're in the business of selling to fans.

Where Gaudreau sits all time is an interesting question. Fits with yesterday's TNT coverage of the out door game and discussing a hockey and Boston Mount Rushmore.

If Gaudreau signs an 8 year deal he's right up there, but now that he's moved on I wonder.

Maybe start a poll and see where they come down?

I'd think Iginla, MacInnis ahead of him for sure. Fleury would be a no brainer without the off ice stuff. Then it gets more interesting ... Backlund for longevity? Giordano? Then cup guys like Nieuwendyk, Suter, Roberts. Nilsson? Kiprusoff and Vernon. McDonald didn't have a lot of tenure but was the face.

I find the whole tribute video overdone, force feeding emotion to the crowd in general, not just in this Gaudreau situation.

If he's important to the fans, they can give him a standing ovation when he comes out for warmup.
That would be more meaningful to the player as well.
IMO, fans can speak for themselves and show how important he is to them but I understand that's not the hockey way and we'll get a video because it's the norm and expected.

I think it's funny/cool that Jim Gaudreau still Tweets more about the Flames than the Blue Jackets. I wouldn't boo Johnny Gaudreau anyway, but I respect that Flames fans earned the admiration of his family (at least his Uncle) during his time here.

Arg... tough call. Generally I don't think you should boo guys who just choose to sign somewhere else (especiallyones who were so great for us for so long)... but he ####ed up our offseason with his dithering string along.
