Don't mind others booing for the fun of it at the game. It's an entertainment product where tribalism is a big part of the experience people are there to enjoy.

Outside of his play against the Flames, I'm glad to have a reason to still follow such an entertaining player.
I've enjoyed following him this season because it has gone exactly how many of us thought. Bottom five team and Gaudreau has totally abandoned the defensive side of the game. Under 99.5 bet looks pretty good night now too.

It's interesting for me to see statements implying that the Flames "would look bad" if they made a tribute video for Johnny or that now that he's a Bluejacket, he's "just another player" from some who seem to be trying to deny their displeasure with him leaving. Johnny is the highest scoring American in Flames history and has the 2nd highest PPG by an American, behind Joey Mullen in Flames history. Really, if the Flames didn't make a tribute video, it would look bad and make the Flames look petty.

To the OP, if I were in attendance, I'd join in the boos because it's surprisingly fun to join a thousands-strong chorus of boos! I'm over him leaving the Flames, but I can still admit Johnny is the unicorn player (not Tkachuk), and he undoubtedly (along with Tkachuk) left the Flames weaker offensively.

Go with a tribute video that shows all of JG's embarrassing mistakes on the ice. Close the video with the slo mo of Johnny quitting on the play where McDavid scored the OT winner.

Stop lying , it’s pathetic

I have no doubt criticize Johnny like any other Flames when they play bad but I praised him plenty also

You on the other hand like to attack people that criticize the team no matter what

There will be a tribute moment. As much as we criticize the flames, they are overall fairly professionally run organization. That isn’t by chance.

Small market teams have little they can control, but how they act is one of them. If you were a player would you not want to go to a professionally run organization? One that will treat you fairly or more than fair?

I think the players know what went down and why just as much as we do. How the flames react can actually turn into an advantage. A organization that is professional in a great family oriented city. Lots of players want that.

Contrast that with the team up North that just yell McDavid.

Its not a lie we have post history...

the only praise on your entire 4 pages of history are Tkachuk and Gaudreau...go figure
you trashed them both constantly in the past. You have a reputation on here for a reason...that is why my post was thanked multiple times, people have noticed.

Yea...mercilessly boo him without a doubt. I don't care if it was "a decision that went to the 11th hour" or whatever he said. If he cared enough about the franchise and the fan base, he should have given us the opportunity to recoup some assets for him. Dead to me. Not to mention he was never going to bring us to the promised land anyways. When the going got tough, he did not.

Boo until my voice is gone.

During tribute video I would hope we all give him a long standing ovation at the Dome because we are a classy organization and fanbase. Most important player for this organization since Iginla and that includes Gio (arguably). Most exciting player to watch in quite some time. AS THIS REPRESENTS HIS TIME AS A FLAME.

Otherwise loud boos when he is announced as part of opening line-up and every time he touches the puck. In the tradition of all players that have shunned this organization for personal or other reasons (ie. Fox, Tkachuk, Gaudreau). AS THIS REPRESENTS HIS TIME AND DECISION TO BE A BLUE JACKET.

This would be pretty funny as that was one of the softest plays in overtime in NHL history.

I would neither boo or cheer. I would watch the video and move on with my life.

I think there is a lot of recency bias with Johnny after his electric 115 point season. Yes it's was a MVP worthy season but are just going to forget button hook turnover Johnny for half his time here? That wasn't very electric. He was a ghost at times and it's not like he won is a cup he was a ghost in the playoffs.

At end he screwed the franchise.

lol. that was more on Hanifin giving away the puck as he did all series long.

That said I don't give a crap if Goodrow or Ratchuk scores 150 points each in the regular season and Hubey and Kadri score 50 points.

Playoffs is all that matters.

Poll didn't have the option I plan on doing, so I didn't vote.

I will cheer during the tribute video. Gaudreau has played 8 seasons in Calgary when he could have played zero just like Fox, Erixon and a few others. He signed and re-signed with the Flames, and he gave me a whole lot of 'out of my seat' moments with his skill. This is an entertainment business first and foremost, and he entertained the hell out of me many nights.

I may (but probably won't) cheer for him on his first puck touch of the night. However, that's where it stops. He will be playing for the other team, and I don't cheer for the other team unless it happens to be a spectacular end to a spectacular career. The only reason I would boo him is if Johnny does something in the game - like diving, or gets away with a high-stick, or something like that. Otherwise, I personally don't see a reason to boo him. He could have spent zero seasons here very easily, but instead gave us hope and a lot of entertainment. He chose to leave, and that's fine - his mistake, but a mistake he earned by playing here all these years. He didn't sit out, he didn't demand a trade, and he didn't become a distraction or talk poorly about the city, the organization or the fans, and that's where my personal standards are at. That's me, however. People see things differently or have different standards.

Pretty much this. I generally don't spend any energy on opposing players unless they are chirping the refs or something. The old Gretzky whiner chants were fun when he did that.

But booing a player when they touch the puck? If you have that kind of conviction, then cheer for the Flames the entire game, whether they are defending or on the attack.

Cheer the tribute for all his contributions as a Flame but heavily boo him throughout the rest of the game.

Yeah, I see sports fans like Snuffleuppegus online, but don't really encounter them in real life. Most fans in real life just have fun with everything and put almost zero thought into sports fandom beyond entertainment/killing time.

At the end of the day the only serious thing about sports is the business of making money for the owners and a rich, fairytale life for the athletes that play. We're just a bunch of middle aged guys giving them the money to do so. Getting jilted at how fans have fun and what leads them to cheering/booing is absurd, lol. That's when you know they take this too seriously.

Johnny will get booed, snuffleuppegus will sit at home feeling really annoyed at fans and bad for Johnny and Johnny will leave the game and go to a really nice restaurant with his current and former teammates and they'll get drunk and laugh and continue on living as young millionaires. And we'll get up the next day and work a huge chunk of the next year to earn what Johnny did at that game in Calgary.

bottom line is if you pay your money do whatever the F you like

cry, cheer, boo
short of slurs or death threats nobody should judge

I'm telling you guys though we will be hearing Doughty/Fox level of boos (well earned IMO) and likely beyond so brace yourselves

End of the day I hope the Flames actually kick their ass above all else...don't go out a party the night before again. Remember there is one of him and 23 or whatever of you.

I plan on booing him. The fact he would rather play for the Columbus Blue Jackets than here is a kick in the junk.

Frankly I don’t understand how people want to cheer for him. He won nothing here, got his ass kicked by the Oilers, and then bailed on his team.

Good riddance.
