Nuge is 73rd in even strength scoring, one ahead of Toffoli. Heck McDavid isn't even leading the league at even strength (although credit due he's close)
their PP is however lethally effective

Nah, McLellan and Tippett are well respected coaches that would have that control in any other organization.
The problem is that all the star players through the years in EDM were told from levels higher than the coach to "just play" becuase their talent was deemed to be above any system the coach would restrict them with. Coaches were told the same.
Look at Hall, spraying water at Eakins and all sorts of other insubordination, again, because a guy like Lowe said the same rules didn't apply to him (he gave him his number). Hall goes away, gets in a system where he is accountable again, and wins MVP a year later.
The undermining of the coaches, from levels above, is the reason the top players are more concerned about their own game, and why the team can't convince veterans from outside the team (who may hold players accountable), to join, becuase they too would have been told to let the star players do what they want.

Nuge with 45 points, and a -3... that's wild.
Edit: Collectively, the Oilers' top three scorers so far this season have combined for 174 points and just a +7 rating.

I'd be curious to know how many of those 174 points have been on the PP. I'm betting it's most of them.

Just over half: 88 (50.57%).
Boston is the next highest-scoring team. Their top-3 has 50 PP points and 105 total points.
The Flames for comparison have 33 PP points and 90 total points from their top-3.

“See what happens when he plays defence!!” And “Mavi shows that he’s not afraid to go pointless to help his team.’

I tried to watch the highlights on sportscentre. Instead it was a package of McDavid not scoring then some plug Cornado talking about how many good chances he had.

Forget where you’re posting? How does this work in E=NG? He helped the NG’s win a cup.
And by the way, his playoff career average was just under a point per game, and he was a net plus player in playoffs.

Woodcroft is so smug yet the Oilers have the exact same record as last season...you know the record that got Tippet fired lol

They have gone through some decent coaches up there. Tuning them out is a pattern. I hope they decide to stop that cycle and keep Woodcroft on. He’s clueless and conceited. A wonderful combination for them.

former coaches there stuck to their ideology/system which was a quick way to losing that locker room. but there was nothing inherently wrong with what those coaches were trying for. the problem was with the players and the guys running the show above them, and the entitled culture that preceded their tenures
woodcock panders to the top players' floating ways and spins it as a "team" effort to the cameras. its like they cooked him up in a lab specifically for that team
he's perfect. lives in delusion, gaslights the few responsible players like Derek Ryan, and acts pompously and throws shade at rival teams which the Edmonton media gobbles up like meat sacs in a pigs pen
he's figuratively and quite possibly literally a puppet for them

Sucks we lost tonight. But always fun watching the end of an Edmonton Globetrotters loss.
