The Flames have had some success stories but I think they're going to become significantly rarer as long as Sutter has any influence on which players play in this organization. I think they'll have to rely significantly on external scouting because they were consistently unable to draft during his first tenure and their last two draft classes since he returned are thoroughly underwhelming.

I'd probably avoid throwing unsubstantiated slander after being mad about Nathan Gerbe v2 being sent down if you're trying to gain any credence as a writer. That's just me tho.

What he has done in the AHL is not at all unique. There have been all kinds of diminutive players put up big points in the A but never make the jump.
This isn't some unprecedented atrocity, it's just a handful of posters hammering away at the issue relentlessly.

It's slanderous to say the Flames couldn't draft in the 2000s? Oh, man.

Well If you have been following the thread it is not just about Philips but about the bigger picture. Scorp makes a good point in that maybe the Flames need to get better and one way to do that is to graduate players. The discussion about Philips is also enhanced due to concens about scoring and a need for a top rw. Lots of good points both ways, but not really that mind numbing. Maybe it is a topic that doesn't interest you?

If anyone in the league thought there was that chance, he would of been picked up off waivers or send future considerations for him.

I remember there being a lot of talk about Jason Morgan back in the early 00's.

It's not just that he's short, it's that he is extremely light as well. A player like that will always only have very limited and specific deployment. A player that small needs to be really exceptional, because if they aren't cutting it in the top 6, playing them down the lines probably isn't optimal.
Nathan Gerbe is often used as an example of a really small player who had a decent career as a depth player, but the guy was also pretty heavy for his height (5'4" and 176lbs). Martin St. Louis, Cliff Ronning, Pat Verbeek, and Fleury were the same. Small players, but really strong and could grind it out against bigger players.
I wonder why Phillips has never bulked up. He has to know that it would help his case a lot, especially in the legs. Seeing a recent photo of him, his legs looked like twigs. I wonder if maybe he tried, but he just can't due to genetics or something, or if maybe he is afraid he will lose finesse and speed if he tries.

I would look up the definition of the word slander and learn what the word means. But that is just me tho.

True, but not relevant. Defamatory remarks made in writing are not slander but libel. The question remains whether TheScorpion is making defamatory remarks about Darryl Sutter, and I think a case could be made either way.

Sutter will be here max to the end of his term. I wouldn’t worry too much. Phillips is not top 6 material, currently. We’re in the middle of the playoff hunt, not the time to test the waters for it.

Basically, you're accusing Sutter of deliberately ruining hockey players' NHL careers because he is too stupid to give ice time to rookies. I'd say a case could be made that that's defamatory, and it would be very hard to make the defence that it is actually true.

... all I said is his teams haven't been able to draft. what in the world are you on about
if it's defamatory to think a coach or GM doesn't do well at certain areas of the job, this entire site would be put on trial

The fact remains Sutter was poor at drafting, and left the franchise in shambles when he was fired as GM.

I'm on about the drum you are continually banging about Phillips. You make it look like he would be an NHL all-star if it weren't for Darryl Sutter's personal vendetta against him.

Sorry, Paulie. ‘Flames suck because I say so’ isn't actually an opinion, it's emotional vomit. Try again when you've got something else to say.

Uh no. I just think he should be given an opportunity in the NHL somewhere. I think his upside is as a third-line forward. The rest is all your projection. This is embarrassing, frankly.
