At least Flames fans here - for the most part - don't believe their team is "something special" every single year and then watch them fall flat on their ovrerpaid butts.
We are pretty realistic in assessment and don't think that the "next guy we sign is our saviour"....not so much in Shelbyville.
Exactly and in fact most here are the opposite. Always certain we’re on a path to being terrible.

It's quite amazing isn't it, To me the Flames have been brutally bad yet...
They aren’t good at all. Low scoring, poor defensive plays, goaltending has been the ####s. But Edmonton doesn’t have the same excuses. They’re lottery winners!
Bouchard for Chychrun
1st for Gavrikov
1st, Pulju, Broberg+ for Kane
Bouchard for Chychrun. LMAO!!! That one kills me!!
You left out the part where they expect AZ, Columbus and Chicago to retain 50% on the contracts as well. The Oilers fan base is by far the most clueless in the NHL.
Goaltending is not our issue. We have spent 7.5ish million on two goalies. It’s not an ideal situation but the team is not being hampered greatly by goaltending. Our defence, well that another story. I remain confident they will improve in that area though. Maybe make a trade for a solid stay at home guy, and be more focused on keeping the puck out of the net as the year goes on. Time will tell. Johnny Toews looks like a possible fit too so not sure where Kenny Holland will go from here. All I know is this is our year, and so far it hasn’t overly looked like it, but I remain confident.
I can't help but notice that you accurately assessed the issues with the Oilers D, but then like Oilers management, immediately suggested that adding a forward might be a fit.

yeah, no
More like a first and Holloway minimum for Chychrun
A first and a good prospect or young player for Gavrikov
Puli and Broberg are not that interesting and its likely that this is Poolparties last year in the NHL. Other teams would savage Edmonton's offer.
Add to it that all the GM's know that Holland is over a barrel so they'll dunk on him all day.
Add to that, The Oilers can't afford to add large salaries without either retention or sending back a contract, which will make the pricing even more steep.

It is hilarious to think that any top players are going to waive to go there. They still think they are contenders with that defensive group and goaltending….. hahahahaha
When he comes back, he's gonna be rusty as hell, his wrist may not be 100%, and it'll probably take him a while to get back into game shape.
Evander Kane can't save the Oilers. No one can.
I know this isnt the thread for Edmontonian optimism, but at the very least Kane gives the Oilers the options where an opposing team has to focus at least a little bit on someone other than the obvious duo.

By other team do you mean bankruptcy court and creditor team?

They've already got that in Hyman and RNH.
When Kane comes back, it doesn't make the team better or more dangerous. It just means Hyman loses his spot 5 on 5, and RNH loses his spot on the PP. Kane just replaces the TOI and points those 2 are being gifted in his absence.
Why do you think both are producing way above normal, it's not because they have a better 2nd line this year.

Q, from a Coilers fan: Why do these third string, no-name backup goalies do so well against McDrai?
A, from another Coilers fan: I have this theory that these third string goalies know they are going against McDavid. So they just have max adrenaline flowing through the veins.

The delusions are strong with these ones...
That reminds me of something that was posted years and years ago on CP (Reggie will remember) from a Leafs fan when that club was not very good and was something along the lines of
"the reason the Leafs lose so often is because other teams try harder against them cause they are the Leafs"

It's stunning to me that 8 years in and the Oilers still haven't managed to bring anyone onboard who can teach McDavid and Draisaitl how to play both ends of the rink.
Every year they become more and more powerplay specialists.

Just as stunning is the players themselves, who obviously shun any defensive role. They just don't want to do it, and it's cost the team x number of coaches, some of whom were really good. But after 5 or 8 or 10 years of not winning, do you not eventually wake up and say "Gee, maybe there's something missing, something I'm not doing that would help us."
