The media at The Score love McDavid so much they refuse to move us ahead of the Oilers in the standings lol. We have more points but that is not enough dammit!
They do in the overall conference standings tab, just not the division.
Sutter said the goal was to be in the playoffs by Christmas, what, over a week ago? Of course, to the usual suspects here’s guffaws….but…

I have a charity bet going on Twitter that McDavid will not score 150 points this year. It's amazing how many folks three hours up north think it's an inevitability. I would be stunned if he even comes close.
I think the paradox is the worse they are doing the closer he'll get and vice versa
Even though I have Markstrom in fantasy (god knows why), I hope we absolutely rock them tonight.

Flames have a better offense, better defense, and superior PK. But scoring 12 goals in two games against the Sharks might inflate that that ES offense like wearing 3" platform shoes to make one reach the high requirement for an amusement rollercoaster ride.
On the bright side, our PK has improve of late. In the past 5 games, they're 5/24, or 79.2% efficiency. The Ducks would be ranked 16th with that PK eff.
How the Ducks can win ====
1. Carry good play from 1st period to all 3 periods.
2. Induce a lot of PP opp's. The Flames get penalized more than us.
3. McTavish has a multi-point game.
Let's go, Ducks!

It is forecast to be 80 degrees in LA/OC on Christmas. Take that, Santa.
As for being a minus 46 windchill, I have been in weather like that in Manitoba, and that was really cold despite four layers of clothing and the heaviest Canada Goose jacket I could find. I don't think that there is anything that really makes minus 46 tolerable. But the good news was that it seemed positively balmy when we got to Winnipeg and it was 17 above, so I guess it is all relative.

It's crazy how many good goaltending performances have been wasted in Anaheim the last 4 years. I see teams clamoring for goalie stability all around the league every year and meanwhile watch stellar performaces in the net go to waste on pointless games for us all the time. Why are our goalies always so good

Ugh... back to listening to the game. Gotta apply the third poly coat on treasure chest for a Christmas present. Plus side, the team scored when I was listening to the game in the garage. Score again McTavish! Make a profit and get that multipoint game like I said in the By the Box preview!

Quote:
Yep. It was a fictional holding call. There was no hold.
Flames score on it.
Then later Flames execute a set play pick, an obvious pick off a faceoff to get the tying goal. Somehow thats not a penalty even though it resulted in a wide open situation. No way that should have been a goal, should've been Calgary penalty. But nice to know that the Flames practice setplays with infractions. Nicer if any were called.
Flames lose anyway but annoucer says "To flames fans this might feel like a loss but its not a loss its a tie game" They actually said this verbatim. But we know flames fans gobble up any tripe. If anybody is even watching.

To have a 7 game and a 5 game losing streaks and still be in playoffs by Christmas is impressive haha. Hopefully they have a strong start to 23 and start climbing the standings
You know.... as bad as things seem.. the Flames are only 3 points back from where they were last year at this point (35 games in the Flames had 42 points). I think this Cali road trip could be the turning point for us.

Zed is becoming a force out there, in more ways than one. It's fantastic to see a player benefit and develope so much from Flame's coaching and experience. You can tell he wants it and appreciates it too, wants to step it up and succeed. I like him. He's cool.
I have always been so surprised Jared Bednar had him on a short leash in Colorado . His hit on Tkachuk in 2019 was the Aves turning point in that series. I guess its probably because he was Fairly young still. He definitely matured now took some hard lessons like Lucic cold clocking him lol
“ Can always count on the flames being gifted powerplays to keep their games close.”
Ahahahahahahhahahahahahahhaahahahahaha. These idiots must surely be trolling
That's the scary part...they truly believe that the Oilers almost never get PP's and should be getting at least twice as many if not more every game. Some even think that McCryBaby draws 2-6 penalties per shift that the refs just ignore because there is an NHL-wide conspiracy against the Coilers...

For me its all ok… the teams that go far peak at the right time… I get the sense Daryl uses the entire regular season to try to peak going into the playoffs… last year they peaked too early… this year, lets hope they go into the final month or so on a heater and never look back.

This year Zadorov has become what I thought Weeger would be. Hopefully some time under Sutter will make that a reality.

Will be interesting to see what the Flames can do after the break. The are slowly getting better. But lack of finish, dumb penalties and inconsistency seem to be clinging on.
The last two are probably easier to fix than the first one. Kylington coming back at some point would be a big help. I still think they’ll be bringing in a rental trigger man at the deadline. If Mangiapane could ever get going it would be huge.
Lack of effort is definitely not a problem. It feels like they are rounding into something. They’ve had some pretty frustrating stretches and are still in a playoff spot. Good for them.

Millen has really grown on me. Hrudey seems like a great guy but rarely offers much insight in the game. Millen a bit more of a pro.
Rasmus seems like the one guy on the Flames who wants the game on his stick, not afraid to make a mistake and might actually elevate his game as the game gets harder.
The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Strange Brew For This Useful Post:
I used to hate Millen on commentary but I find I'm enjoying him more than Hrudey lately. Might just be the change, familiarity breeds contempt kind of thing, but he's been good. And the Huberdeau mispronounciations are killing me now. Legit entertainment.

Huberdeau, Markstrom and Dube have definitely worked through their early season struggles and it has been helping a lot lately. To be honest since his press box stint Lucic has also been way better. Finding Ruzicka was a big plus.
If Mangiapane and to a lesser extent Coleman could produce a bit more it would make a huge difference.
Still feels like the Flames need one more finisher.
