Worth mentioning that Johnny really finished well last season too. Think of how many Chances Toffoli has had and put Johnny (or Chucky’s) finishing ability in that spot (and that’s no shot on Toffoli, just different tier of players). Johnny and Chucky were lethal.
In general I’m not overly concerned about this team making the playoffs or not - I think they will. I just have trouble believing they’re anything “special” come playoff time…time will tell, but I just hate being a team in that 10-16 spot league-wide. We’ve spent so much time in that range, with it usually being closer to 16 than 10. It felt like at the end of last season we were finally establishing ourselves as a top team and then the rug got pulled out from under our feet and we’re right back into that mushy middle.

I wasn't the biggest fan of his defensive play, mid season his defensive play broke down. He started standing at the blue line and throwing cross ice passes regardless of the circumstances.
He was a good player for us, and everything aligned for that line last year.

Frank this morning on the Fan960 seemed to imply (if i heard it correctly) that the Flames were expecting this to be a shorter term thing for Kylington. In the weeks range not months like its been.

meaning weeks from now?
kylington sliding back in next to tanev would be good for tanev as well as the slotting of every one else
we sure could use him down the stretch

Okay, so you think they are in the race with the other teams
2 divisional spots up for grabs and the wildcards

I think they're a wildcard, but finally get in the groove we all expected in the final 6-8 weeks and look like a 1/2 seed in the playoffs and easily make the second round, going out in a long series
part of that is hope and wishful thinking .. but still my prediction
guys are gradually trending the right way, up and down the roster

Let's not forget that the amazing team last year looked like garbage the year before, even under Sutter.
It took them half a season to get used to his systems play.
I think this team looks like a contender come the back half of the season this year, assuming goaltending is OK going forward.

Sutter teams typically start off slow when he takes over. Not in every case, of course.
With the significant turnover, it is possible that we are just seeing another adjustment period. At least I hope that has been the case.

Ok- new take here but if we could acquire Chychrun using Kylington as a piece and not risking the 2023 1st, I think that would be a big win. Something like kylington+ 2024 1st + small add.
Could work cap wise if we carried around only 1 extra roster player instead of 2 or 3.
D would look like:
Hanifin-Andersson
Chychrun- Tanev
Zadorov-weegar

I'd rather Kylington and the 1st. Stop trading 1sts. Flames aren't in any position to further cripple the future.

Doesn't sound appealing to Arizona. Getting a guy who's not playing and not even a 2023 first? I'm guessing that would be beaten by everyone.

It would break up Stone and Big Z. Which would be a good thing.

No, the Flames expected Kylington to miss a few weeks of the season not a few months. They're likely as uncertain as the rest of us.

Pat Steinberg, at the beginning of the season, said he expected it be a long term absence.

I think Seattle has had everything go right for them and have been taken lightly...they might get a spot but of Calgary, LA, Edmonton, Seattle, they would be my third or fourth pick despite play so far. Their goaltending is really starting to buckle.

People LOL'd when we said the Panthers are a good bet to miss this year as well, especially when I saw the Staal brothers in the lineup.

your first comment implied SEA was a given for 2nd, and CGY, LAK and EDM were fighting for 3rd and WC - that is what people were challenging

You certainly implied that Seattle was a lock
