Sounds like Ontario and parts of the US are heading for some interesting weather over the next few days.
The nfl fantasy pool guy was talking about Cleveland having 50mph winds Sunday

This seemed wrong so I checked. Today was -31 at midnight, -30 at 9 am, briefly -27 at 2 pm then back to -28 right now and will stay there the rest of the day. Most of the day was right at -30.

Solid argument. People that need but can't afford proper winter gear would take great comfort in this.

No it’s right. Did you look at the rest of the week?

Does today not count as part of this week?

Yeah I mean we do a winter clothing drive every year at work. I guess we should stop because... people in the Arctic have lived like this for generations so why bother?

Sydney is pretty remote. Maybe if he can get in with Paul Hogan somehow, he can narrow his KB number to 2.

About 30-40 people die per year from hypothermia in Alberta. In 2021, the heatwave caused 66 deaths over one week.
But I’m sure the 66 dead bodies will be thankful that their death was more affordable. Solid argument

That's a much better argument than everything so far, aside from the 2021 heat wave having temps a good bit over 30 to kill that many people.
Bringing up a heat wave death count because we have sympathy for people in need of winter clothing seems like a bit of whataboutism, but that's the entire debate anyway I suppose.

Isn't the comparison more about -25 to 30 vs +35ish? Those both seem to happen about 2 weeks per year.

No, that's not what whataboutism means. Whataboutism is taking a point and bringing up an unrelated issue. You brought up the existence and threat of death from cold here, and he countered directly with heat related deaths here.
You also flippantly brushed it off as "one heat wave" when he clearly mentioned 66 deaths in ONE WEEK, when there are 30-40 hypothermia deaths per year in Alberta. It jives with what I've seen from following the news, that you're much more likely to die from heat related deaths in Alberta than cold related deaths.

I think I made mention only of the "frostbite within minutes" threat by Environment Canada. Frostbite is not death.
Second point, which you ignored, is that the heat wave was at temperatures well exceeding +30, which is what the debate was about. So the number to cite to would be the lethality rate in Alberta at +30.
Lastly, heat wave deaths exceeding hypothermia deaths doesn't make you "win". It's still likely true that the majority of Albertans prefer +30 to -30, despite the horrific lethality of +30 you've clearly proven.
