Good to finish explosively but this game really should have been over after the first 30 seconds. You get spotted two goals and the game shouldn’t be in doubt halfway through the third.
Really hoping against Bedard in the division but I think it’s inevitable with Anaheim/San Jose tanking like they are and Edmonton’s lottery luck once they inevitably miss the playoffs.

easy to say, but that just isn't the reality at all
and game management doesn't help either

I think there is some reality in it
Fact is, last game, SJ did everything they could to hand it to the Flames, the Flames refused to capitalize, and it was 2-1 going in to the 3rd
Tonight, the final was 7-3, but they were gifted 2-0 in 30 seconds, and lost the first 2 periods otherwise, entering the 3rd tied 3-3
These are should win games against a bad opponent who should feel bad
It would be great to see them just step on their necks, and win a full game, not let the opponent hang around until the 3rd

I mean.. they did score 7 goals, and outscore their opponents by 4? 5? in the 3rd. That's pretty much stepping on their neck.
I get that you're saying you'd rather them play the full game and dominate start to finish - but can't we just be happy they came back and won the game, and have put a couple wins together?

I wonder if any franchise records are still held by Atlanta?
Most ties in a season IIRC, but not really a “record”.

Only two still standing that I could find ...
Longest win streak (Atlanta has 10 in 1978, but it's been tied twice, not broken)
Most shots against in a game (57, 1977)

I think every fan base wants their team to just dominate from puck drop to final buzzer it just isn't realistic with penalty calls, bounces etc.
Last night the Flames put up a 65% xGF% 1st period and a 75% xGF% second period.
That's stepping on a neck as far as I'm concerned.
A bad change and bounce makes it 3-2 and then it's a game. Happens.

The league has too much parity for teams to blow out others. Doesn’t happen that often

Yeah, even terrible teams like SJ have decent offensive players like Karlsson, Meier, Couture and (sometimes) Hertl. Sturm seems like he'll score close to 20

Well, I agree, and we all know that any team can beat any other team on any given night
We have, on the other hand, seen the Flames go down by a couple early, and then the opponent never looks back
That’s all I was observing. Both games, SJ served up a potential blowout on a platter, and the Flames both times let them stay around, such that it was anyone’s game entering the third. A better opponent and who knows how it goes
I like the win, glad for the two points. Glad to see lots of positive things about the game.

You don't want to get too high after two wins over a pretty dismal opponent, but hopefully that opens the flood gates.
Otherwise I don't know if the Flames have the talent (or line chemistry) to accept the platter (can't finish)

How often has this happened? What are some examples? Tampa? was 2-1 in the 3rd. Even the St Louis game was 3-2 in the 3rd.
Those were probably the worst, and how are they any different than these games? The Flames just played 120 minutes in the other team's barn, and never trailed, and outscored them 12-5.
But that's not good enough, apparently

I think it's clear they are trending in the right direction. The Flames are outscoring opponents 37-31 in December (both right around top 10 rates/GP in the league through 11 games).
For a team that couldn't score and was bleeding goals for a while, you can't really complain too much. Infact, they've gone from a .523 P% during the first 22 games to .591 P% this month.
For me, they really need to get the PP operating a little more efficiently and this will be the straw that stirs this teams drink the rest of the way.

Shots record was beaten in January vs Columbus in a 6-0 win. We had 62 shots

The bigger issue is the lack of opportunism or finishing ability that leads to that perception. Outside of the last two games against a porous defense, the Flames don't "step on the throats" of an opponent because they simply can't fill the net on the chances they get, How many times have we seen the same game where they significantly outchance their opponent and either squeak out a win or lose by one? The issue to me is one where the horses don't match the carriage. Is a team with Weegar, Huberdeau, etc really a dump and chase lineup? Johnny and Tkachuk would carry it in, but these guys aren't unless it's an odd man break. Even the powerplay is stale with the dump and chase nonsense and shots from the point

They won. That's all you can say about it. If you were impressed by their effort then you're easily impressed.
