Hahaha, this is excellent. It's the same every year year dude and it's just for fun. Don't take it seriously.
It starts not from people complaining about cold but from people throwing shade and aggression at cooler weather likers when we hit a deep freeze, see: acey this year. Then cool weather likers respond and we're off to the races. Maybe you're the one that needs to get over himself a little. But the cold weather white knighting was probably the most dramatic and therefore my favorite comment in this season's weather battle!

Hard to believe Minneapolis and Fargo are so low on that list. They're more temperate than Juneau?
With respect to Calgary, I went for the Iginla retirement ceremony in March 2019. It was frigid. Environment Canada says -31.2C.
Edit: Only 3 days have been colder since then, and one of them was yesterday.

I propose a CP weather off meetup. All of us biggest bitches in either direction get together once at - 5 and once at 30 degrees.
We cold weather people come up with 5 activities for -5 and the hot weather posters come with 5 activities for +30 and we see which day turns out more fun.

Well lucky for us hookers and blow are fun at any temperature. Plus the cocaine will make -5 feel like +20 anyways so it’s a wash.

My argument is not about preference, I don't care if people claim -30 is more comfortable than +30, that they enjoy tractionless roads and block heaters.
I'm not even a big of hot weather. I'm more interested in trying to refute the idea that +30 is more physically detrimental to the human body than -30, because I don't believe it to be true.

Speaking as a hotter weather guy, and this may be considered cheating, but I don't wait till it's 30 to do something that day. Like for a hike (and this holds for all seasons, but is best in the summer), get to the TH by 8am, be done by noon. Most of the hikes I prefer have the uphill first, so you get to enjoy the cooler 15C air on the way up, and then it warms as you go down, just in time for an ice cold beer at home in the shade when it's nearing 30.

So what you’re saying is that your favourite part of +30 is all the times during the day you’re successfully able to avoid directly experiencing +30.
Me too, friend. Me too.

We'll all be social butterflies full of jokes and laughter on the internet and then turn to quiet, awkward small talk in real life, as per internet meet ups.

-30 vs +30 is kind of a weird debate in the sense that it exists only in the vacuum of this thread and not in the real world, where billions of people live in regular +30 and hardly anyone lives where it's consistently -30.

I read that comment as it’s not +30 24hrs a day, so you still have opportunities if your not comfortable doing activities in the heat.
When we hit these cold spells, it sucks for full days at a time. I shovelled at 7:00am at -28. -27 now. There’s no part of today that doesn’t suck.

I suppose with easier I was alluding to cost as well, perhaps for those less privileged... because the appropriate footwear for +30 is $2 flip flops while your boots rated for -30 cost a bit more than that.
|
Don't worry, I don't read that as passive-aggressive. Yes, I love to vacation. Usually do snowboard trips, though. Next year will be Whitefish. Did Whistler before covid. I like going with my friends to Panorama (buddy has a place there). I like going to to Vernon in the winter (never the summer...too hot) because snowboarding at SilverStar is great and I have family there.
For warm places I like San Diego as it's usually, like, 21 degrees when we go, which I love.
I don't mind Hawaii, but I'd be fine with never going back as it can get too hot.
Fataing hated Mexico and absolutely will never be back. Hated Arizona and will never be back.
For big vacations, Austria was nice, but again, I went in November as I much rather walk around comfortably in a toque and parka versus being hot and uncomfortable.
So yeah, I like to vacation; just not to hot places. Interesting how you equate vacationing with going somewhere warm. I get that, but I chase cold, dude.

Yeah we steered the discussion that way a few pages ago but then the cold weather guys brought it back to +30 vs -30.
We said earlier it should be a base line "comfortable" temp such as 20 degrees. Then go up and down the same degrees from there and debate the merits of each.
So maybe +35 vs +5. However a fair counter is what are typical outlier temperatures that we see in the city we're talking about. In Calgary I'd say it's closer to +32 vs -25.

We went on a mtn bike trip in the summer to Sedona. We have friends who'd get up early, make a smoothy and go biking before noon. My buddy and myself would get up, have a couple cups of coffee, eat a big breakfast. Wait until they got back and then we'd head out in the heat of the day. Everybody is different.

And these last few years +30 is actually becoming less of an outlier, it feels like. Where as actually breaking -30 seems to happen maybe 3-5 days a year.

Exactly this. 4 hours of +30 is a very small price to pay to have the other 20 hours of the day be between 15-25
