He would be amazing on the Flames. He's a play driver. Hemsky esque

100%. He was a very creative play rusher, and did way more to advance the play than many understood last year (our fanbase biases towards safe, non productive play over ANY mistakes and miscues in a players game, which is vehemently called out and chastised as a flawed, reckless player).

All last summer I saw Kylington as the one player on the team to placate losing Gaudreau's fearless, creative puck movement up the ice that threw off the other team and created lots of confusion. Kylington excelled at advancing the puck in a creative way that threw the other team off and created exciting, dangerous rushes and chances.

We're missing him so much more than most on here understand. We now have basically no one that does anything but formulaic, easy to read puck movement and it shows soooooo badly.

Rumor has it that Anthony Mantha might be available. RW who has put up some good numbers in the past with a 5.7 cap hit.

Sounds like the caps need to get rid of some salary so the Flames would have to be creative to make it happen. Any interest?

Kylington is IR - not LTIR. That's 2.5. So with retention and doing something with him you could almost manage it.

Or Lucic. Next year would be tough though, with a few contracts kicking in (Huberdeau and Weegar)

I don't know if Mantha would excel under Sutter. Skill has never been the issue with him, but consistency of effort and overall compete levels are poor.
Going all the way back to junior.

What's the deal with Kevin Hayes? Leads the Flyers in points and is almost a point per game, but was healthy scratched by Torts. Apparently his defensive game hasn't been great, although his +/- isn't the worst on the team. Not that +/- is a perfect stats, but it is one way to measure relative to the rest of the team. Has defense always been a sore spot with him? Always a shame when a big player doesn't commit defensively.

Not the greatest contract considering his career average production, but he seems to be producing great this season. I could see him being moved at some point.

I am finding it really tough for the Flames to make any adds that are not of the rental variety and they have not earned that yet. Do not see any circumstance where our 23 1st should be on the table for a rental. Toffoli has 49pts in 70 games as a Flame and still signed for one more year at 4.25M. Giving up a 1st+prospect for 28 goal 57pt full season pace at that cap hit was a very solid move. With the Weegar, Huberdeau extensions increasing a combined $7.6M and only Lucic’s 5.25 being a considerable expiry they will be hard pressed to put a team together without shedding more. Losing Kylington and Valimaki while having guys like Mackey underwhelm makes trading a top 4 for scoring help that much more difficult and really not feasible.

With a thin pool and aging roster I am not really interested in moving picks for players that walk in the summer. Maybe if this team goes on a heater that changes but the cap crunch that was supposed to happen this year has been delayed by a year but is inevitable

If he gets traded, I see him going to Columbus to play with Gaudreau.

I think that reported cost for Chychrun is still low. Oilers way overvaluing their prospects.

Friedman in his latest 32 thoughts article said he thought JVR to the Flames would make sense but it appears it is not a fit.

The Oilers can get an actual potential franchise dman. That price is reasonable but I am sure they will mess it up.

Also trade Nurse for a top 4 dman + picks.. all of a sudden, cap looks better and defense looks better.

Friedman clearly doesn't watch the Flames. JVR should be the last player Tre targets. We do NOT need to get slower.

That Nurse trade doesn’t exist unless it is for Gudbranson

I actually think mantha would look excellent opposite huby. Not sure how I'd work that cap at all but it is intriguing.

I have been more and more interested in chychrun as time goes on. I don't want to give up a first this year at all, but he would be a really nice addition.

What about Nurse+Campbell+1st for Bobrovsky+Hornquist?

Oilers get a high priced goalie and some cap relief going into next year. Florida gets a Dman to pair with Ekblad and a cheaper goalie with the same term left and a 1st which they don’t have?

I think Florida would consider it. Edmonton IMO does not get better this year as their d is already horrible, but it looks good for them next year.

Unless they think Skinner is the man, then they are better off going for a high priced dman.

IMO if the Oilers wanted to actually be a threat, they should just trade Leon now. McDavid scores with or without him and those 2 attitudes towards team play is the root of the problem and maybe removing one would get rid of their problems.

If you build a hard nose defensive team around McDavid, he can score on his own

That post about Necas was from June. He's not getting traded.

I would like if the oilers did that. Leaves them with an even worse defense

I don't think it's all that low - Holloway has value as a prospect. The problem is the cap, so either Puljujarvi or Yamamoto nedds to be included.

Puljujarvi + Holloway + 1st and 3rd

(I feel like I posted something pretty similar to this a while ago)
