Ice dam on the Bow river at Nose creek causing flooding.
Me, an idiot. Tries to ride on the pathway that is flooded around the zoo, by the point I was over a foot deep I realized how dumb I was. Had to stop and put my feet down, winter boots filled up with "refreshing" river water. Instant cold, called my wife for an emergency evac via car on the road under Memorial.

What really sucks is we may have lost this part of the pathway now until the spring, unless the ice dam lets up. Not thrilled about having to take St. George's drive for the foreseeable future.
Bike inside dethawing, winter boots currently getting a wash and dryer treatment.

I haven’t, but with the new gravel bike that interests me as well. Looks like a really cool ride.

There's a climb called "The Wall" that sounds tough. It's been called the toughest gravel ride in the province.

surely this climb then leads to the widowmaker?
based on the pictures of the route on the website and i also found two videos on youtube, the terrain looks amazing.
my two main fears of participating in this would be crappy weather on the day of the event and to a lesser extent finishing sometime late at night(being dead last); however, i realize that being in last this event means you likely did more in your day that most people did

I've done it twice, shorter course doesn't do the wall but you get the creek crossings.
Longer route you do the wall, comes at the 100km mark, 3rd place overall had to walk it. I've walked it once and ridden it once, not sure which was faster.
Both days was done above 30 degrees, would be very interesting in the rain.
Longer route I had a camelbak and 2 large bottles, still stopped to take 4 additional bottles over the course, could have still used 2 more

Oh and you'll have about 48 hours to decide once it opens, it'll sell out quickly even with the expanded #'s

For reference the KOM on the wall is 6:06 at 9km/hr by a pro mountain biker
Average is 13.8% and tops out over 21%

I think it was $100 and starts at 9 am, I'd recommend booking a room in town right after you register. It's only an hour drive from South Calgary but being able to get up and chill before you ride is worth it IMO
For the $100 you get a shirt, a meal after, 2 fully stocked aid stations, and they have photographers out there snapping pics and taking videos

i live in the deep SE of calgary, so i was wondering about the merits of renting a room somewhere versus sleeping in my own bed and getting up earlier.
thanks for the insight

I did the race last year - it was an epic blue-sky day and the long ride is spectacular. It is a real treat to be able to connect that loop through the private ranch and would consider this one of the most scenic rides I have done. I live close to downtown and drove out the day of...easy drive at 7 am on the weekend. A relatively small number of riders so wasn't very hectic at the start.

Wasn't too bad this morning, worst part was that north wind. Hoping to break my -31 record in the next few days.
