Rogers wrapped in Red event with terrible campy singers is already entering into all time annoying for me and we are just getting started with the holiday commercials. Ugh.

It's funny I was just coming in here to say this one. I also hate how their lips don't match up and the girl barely moves her mouth

"Ozempic? What's Ozempic?"

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought you couldn't have drug ads on Canadian TV? Has that changed or is this the loophole around it? i.e. Don't say what the drug is actually for.

I thought watching TSN non stop during the World Cup would lead to being sick of horrendous ads but there's nothing particularly egregious. Actually, there's a couple that I like.

The Adidas ad with Stormzy is fun and has now put "Live is Life" in my head all day.

The Bell tiktok dancing girl ad is actually funny and clever, not something that usually happens with ads on Canadian TV.

Yeah, if you don't make any claims about what the drug does, it's much easier to get it on the air.

I don't know if there's an outright ban on advertising drugs with medical claims, it likely just means the ad has to be reviewed and approved by a regulatory body before it can air, and also requires extensive disclaimers which can take up almost the entire length of the ad. It's just much easier to do the generic "ask your doctor" ad that doesn't make any claims.

It also likely helps that the rules in the US are looser, so most viewers have likely seen ads with more details on US tv, so they know what Ozempic is for.

That ad annoys me and is such a low rent thing for a celebrity to do, and yet the stupid song is actually kinda catchy.

Here's a commercial I actually don't mind, I know. New animated Air Canada one with the bird flying south who gets separated from the flock, finds a house and befriends a wooden pulltoy duck.

The song is "Where You Are" done by Alberta's own Tenille Townes, more specifically she's from Grand Prairie. Love her voice.

I don't know what The Bay's retro late 80s/early 90s VHS quality ads do for sales, but I kinda like them.

Man, that Skip The Dishes ad with Katy Perry is starting to really annoy me.
  • "A little sushi while I watch a movie" is such an annoying lyric and I don't know why.
  • The scene with her in the freezer - why is this even part of the ad? There's no food in there and she looks like she hates herself.
  • The final tagline, "Did someone say Skip?" No, nobody didn't.
I hate that this ad is annoying me too, I still have the hots for Katy Perry so that's even more frustrating.

Is Google having such a hard time filling Youtube ad spots that every one has to be for a Google Pixel 6?

The printer commercial with Shaq. Hey Canada, hockey, Love It! Now look at this printer!
It seems condescending to me.

That's something I've noticed over the years living here. So many ads mention Canadian-ness to condescend to viewers in some kind of lame patriotic way alluding to hockey or beavers or moose, etc or just plain old making sure to mention Canada - "Hey Canada! Check out our new..." Both US and Canadian companies do this.

As an Asian, the whole Hyundai "wah" campaign is so fricking cringey. Stop trying to force this and make this a thing Hyundai. Western folk are not going to replace "woah" with "wah", it just doesn't come naturally to English speaking people. It's like trying to force Asian slang into English vocabulary.

Especially the kids one playing ODR and seeing Mark Scheifele. It's just so goddamn awkward and unauthentic. Can't stand it.

Companies say "hey Canada" in their ads to make people aware that the offer is available in Canada and not just in the US. Because Canadians are exposed to so much US advertising.
