Can't hurt.

I would have liked to have seen janssen take the closer duties though.

yeah, i guess they want to give him those innings in middle/long relief, which might come fairly often with every starter other than halliday..but who knows.

Towers was very good in 7+ innings of work, Jays win 2-1.

Yep, he had fantastic movement on his pitches all game long! Missing League is really going to hurt now that Ryan is out, he could have likely stepped into the closer role if he wasn't hurt.

Not to mention Reed Johnson has been placed on the DL as well, with Rumours he may require Back Surgery

http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news...=.jsp&c_id=tor

"The initial tests performed on Ryan's arm by Toronto's medical staff didn't indicate any structural damage, according to Ricciardi. Still, the Jays' GM said he couldn't rule out the possibility that the left-hander might have to undergo Tommy John elbow-ligament replacement surgery -- an operation that would effectively end Ryan's season. "

Yep, the word right now is that Johnson could potentially face season-ending back surgery. I feel Lind is more than capable of picking up the offensive load from Johnson (he was good enough last season down the stretch plus in the pre-season to deserve a regular spot in the lineup) but the Jays get a heck of a lot weaker defensively with Johnson out.

Oh well, I really like Lind so it will be nice to see him get his career jump-started (if Johnson opts for the surgery). It's really a shame though, Johnson is a warrior and this is his first chance to really lock down a regular spot in the major leagues.

Don't get me wrong, but if these things are pretty serious in training camp (for both BJ and Reed), then why did they bother wasting the clubs time and have surgery then? It really annoys me when players wait for the season to start then drop early. Every sport has this, and whoever is responsible for the players health should be fired when this occurs.

Lind IMO is a big step back defensively and offensively, from having Johnson in the lineup. Ryan I'm sure we can do without since the offense most of the time should be able to have a 2 run advantage going into the 9th, which should not be a problem most nights for any pitcher to come in and close out. It's just disappointing and a let down to have 2 guys leave this early in the season. On the other hand, the Jays could be in the Yankees position and have Pettitte and Mussina go down (2 guys I have in my fantasy pool dammit). Any chance of the Jays picking up Clemens to improve their starting lineup?

I have heard that Clemens is only willing to come back to pitch for the BoSox, Yankees or Astros. That`s all that I have heard. IF they could get him, that would be a major coup....but I would put the possibility of this happening at 0.00000000000000000001%.

Well if Ryan and Johnson are out the Jays are better served looking for a relief pitcher and an outfielder who can be a lead off hitter than a starting pitcher.

I'm not sure about Lind but Ryan's arm only started to feel funny over the past couple of weeks so it's not like this was a carry over from spring training. He tried to pitch through it but he's never had a history of elbow injuries so it's somewhat understandable.

Lind is definitely a huge step down from Johnson defensively but I feel he is almost equal offensively and he will soon be better as well. It's defensively where the Jays get immediately hurt - Lind is pretty bad defensively in left field and Stairs is almost worse. On the plus side, Lind is improving every day and it will only speed up his development if he's getting more playing time.

This team will miss Ryan's automatic 9th innings but the AAA club has a solid set of relievers and Toronto's bullpen has been very good so far as well. Losing League is going to hurt though, he could have stepped in for Ryan if he wasn't hurt.

Blue Jays have placed Troy Glaus on the DL, I sure hope this is it for injuries for a little while.

chacin with a great effort last night, spoiling Dice K's Canadian debut. A gutty 2-1 win in front of a big crowd. I hope it's a confidence booster for the whole team.

Yeah, good outing by Chacin, and also of note is that the bullpen held them scoreless for 2 1/3 innings too. Outside of B.J. Ryan the Jays pen has pitched fairly well so far this season.

Nice to see Frasor was solid with his first ever save. He did not look nervous at all.

the bullpen wasn't so hot last night. I hate it when they blow save opportunities for Doc.

The bullpen gives up 3 runs in the last 2 innings tonight and the O's beat the Jays 5-4.

Yeah the pen is killing the Jays right now. That's about 4 or 5 wins this year so far they've blown. Not good.

Yeah, I think these five blown saves are going to come back to haunt the Jays in September. Especially considering there are likely more to come until BJ returns and is back to 100%.
