But nope, Flames gonna Flame.
Why didn’t the Flames just target a futures package for Tkachuk instead of a couple of rental packages?

Conroy stated the Florida deal was the one that kept them competitive and most other offers were future based.

I assume the Canes had a Necas+ offer on the table

Yeah I feel like I remember hearing that the canes package had Necas involved.

I also made a proposal that the Flames should trade Hanifin for Necas. Lots said he was a 3rd liner. Hind sight is 20/20 and it's easy to say we should have taken Necas when he is a PPG player right now.

We need to do what it takes to maximize our lottery chances.

Lots of time left to implement this plan.

It will never happen. Ever. The Flames had the golden opportunity, and the perfect excuse for the fanbase, to enter into a futures mindset this summer. And they went hard for the present at the expense of the future.

It will never happen.

The thing that would suck most about tanking is that it usually takes a few seasons to recover and we already traded one of our firsts in the next few years which would make recovering from a tank even harder than usual.

This off season was the natural point to rebuild, but management didn't want to and went all in.

Unfortunately, this team probably won't be good enough to make the playoffs, but they are also too good to have high draft lottery odds. This is peak Calgary Flames.

Also feels like the first time in a long time we haven't had either a bona fide star, or at least an exciting prospect to keep things somewhat interesting. Iginla left and Monahan was a Flame the next year, then Gaudreau.

Going to overtime is a loss against the worst team in the league.

The goalies can’t make a save.

The defense can’t make their lives easy.

The forwards can’t score.

The special teams (especially the PP) are useless.

This team is average and heading towards another nothing finish.

Pull the chute, get some assets, get into the top 10, and get a chance at the future greatest of all time instead of another futile summer. Everyone that matters already has a contract for next season. Go get them some help for next year.

Why does this thread even exist? At this point, Flames have a better chance winning a cup vs getting Bedard.

Lol that is so depressing to read cause it just slams home how middle of the pack we are.

While I agree this thread and any new posts arguing we should tank is pointless, it’s still frustrating to come to grips, as another poster mentioned, with the fact this organization was handed a free pass to get younger and build through the draft but decided to load up on 30 year olds instead (or soon to be). Best draft we’ve seen in a while so the timing was ideal.

We didn’t even need to tank per se. Adding young players like Necas or Konecny before they break out should have been the targets instead of players who just had career years in their late 20’s. We did this with the Lindholm trade and now he is our pride and joy.

Getting younger and adding more assets would have been better for us in the long run. I understand we gained a boatload for Tkachuk but when you factor in the cap hits of the new guys and the 1st rd pick we needed to offload to make it all work it’s like we barely broke even…Capspace is a massive asset in itself after all.

The Cup champs have lost to Chicago, Arizona and Vancouver. Went to OT against the Habs. Stuff happens.

Winnepeg
