Why though?
I would think its rewarding to watch them grow musically (if they stick with it) over the years and reap the benefits that being involved in music brings. Better grades, more life skills, ect.

I'm extremely thankful my parents were supportive of my interest in music, put up with the daily practice at home, and going to school concerts. Hell, my parents even came to a few heavy metal shows I've played in.

Say sorry? Hell no, I think I'm going to thank them for supporting me. Again.

That's awesome! I go to everything my kids "do" that I can make it to. Last week we attended a "variety show" and apologies to anyone else who had kids in that, but it was abysmal. I would go again tonight, if it was running though.

I've been to all kinds of things that aren't really my preference through the years for the kids, and I think that's part of being a good parent. I feel like I've learned a lot by doing that though, and while I might prefer watching sports to being at a musical, I'm happy to make those tiny sacrifices.

Ok.

I mean I didn't go all the way to Strathmore last night cause the coffee shops there make the best espresso in a 100km radius. It was to support my nieces and clap and smile. And I'll likely go again. But I mean come on, I'm not going to apply a soft focus to this and stick it in a frame.

Yeah, youth learning instruments can be like nails to a chalkboard. I know I always got the warm and fuzziness seeing my parents out in the crowd, even if they weren't pumped to be there.

Later on though when they asked what times doors opened and if there was a cover charge to get into a death metal show, still feels good man. They stood out like a sore thumb though, my poor parents lol

What adds to my displeasure is the class sizes; all they can do is cram 40 kids on the stage and belt out an inane Christmas carol, no space or time for an amusing skit. Nevertheless I will be there for every minute of it every year (sigh)

There's a big difference between an actual band class performance and a Christmas pageant with a bunch of rando kids from regular class. But even then, if that's my kid on stage I'll still go. I might die a little inside, but I'll clap and force a smile on just for her

My 5-year old had a ballet recital a few months ago that included the younger and older girls. For the 10 minutes my kid was on stage I genuinely enjoyed it, but the rest of the time it was a herculean effort to stay awake

My niece-in-law (is that a thing) actually did a wicked Christmas song, where they sang different songs to the same tune of one another and in harmonious keys. I don’t recall the musical term for that, but I thought it was pretty rad. The quality of stuff they do at private schools is starting to push my mind in support of that direction, which really conflicts with my life-long stance.

I get where he's coming from, to some extent. I have a nephew by marriage and one of from my brother. If my brothers son was being attacked by dogs, I'd throw myself at the dogs to save them without a thought. If my brother in laws son was being attacked, I'd also try and help, but I'd be thinking "this should be #### the Dads doing" as I would get mauled.
