He might have suggested just that.
We don't know right?
But weren't you hammering on this trade before they even signed contracts?

Let's not mix words. The Flames have some of the worst pro scouts in the league. They are terrible at projecting the future.

My job review comment was an observation of someone who wants to hold someone 100% accountable without knowing how much accountability is actually in play, and without letting any clear outside determinants weigh into the assessment.
You'd be fun!

You don't like Treliving.
You won't like Treliving.
You didn't like the trade before they were signed.
Now you don't like the trade because they signed.

I have reread your posts here multiple times and I still don't know what you're trying to say, but if it's that Treliving had limited options because 1) the Flames owners refuse to rebuild and 2) he had no ability to re-sign Gaudreau/Tkachuk, then I don't see why this absolves him of the Huberdeau and Kadri contracts.

"I hope the team doesn't go this direction because it will hinder them for years"
*team goes in that direction and has fallen flat through 30 games*
Like what am I supposed to say?

I can go back.
Don't remember you saying this is a good trade if they move the assets but a bad one if they keep them.
Could be wrong though.

I missed this one, but the depressing part for me about this team is the age of the team. Given the age of the team, you'd expect this team to be contenders or at least a strong, consistent playoff team, but they are middling and in danger of missing the playoffs. And I'm not sure there are any real blue-chippers on the way. Zary, Pelletier and Coronato could all be good NHLers, but I don't know any of them are potential franchise players.

You're assessing someone's performance without knowing what his marching orders were, and without taking into any account the position he was in based on decisions by others.
And you're doing it early, with a limited sample size.
If the owners said go do what you think is best for the franchise it's fair game. (have my doubts on that one).
If the owners said go get the best return you can that will keep us competitive now and in the near term (which is likely) then your witch hunt is pointless.

I think the fact the team is right around a playoff spot is impressive considering how awful they've played the majority of the season. And thats ok. There's 82 games, lots of time left.
Also, we've seen the Flame win the conference, win the division, and have favorable playoff matchups. None of that really matters at all. It's all about what you do in the playoffs. And we dont know what this group will do yet.

3) I simply fear that the Flames will lose out on converting these new players into assets because of the organization's insistence on playing 2-3 home playoff games a year

This team has always performed better in the underdog role. They do have to pick up the pace though if they are going to make the playoffs. Losses to the Jackets, Habs and Canucks in less than a week is a major disappointment.

I see this season as not doing major damage to their playoff chances while hopefully finding the chemistry and putting it together.
They continue to do that.
Not blowing me away. Not convincing me it will work. But staying in it.

It is depressing, but with all the awful contracts they have now, the Flames should finally be able to tank successfully. In the past ownership and management have avoided tanks, but with the current roster I don’t see them having much choice. They’re going to bottom out like the Sharks, hamstrung by horrible, untradeable, long-term deals.

if I can't complain about Treliving signing players to inflated contracts last off-season when he has literally handed out the worst contract in off-seasons prior (Neal, Brouwer) without you getting upset then I really don't know what to do

When did I say that?
Moving the goal posts?
And whose upset?

Shhh, you're not supposed to be saying that, you're being naive. If you're a Flames fan you're supposed to bash every player, the coaching staff, the GM and what not. Stop believing in this team, right now! It is time to blow it all up!

It seems pretty evident that the monster contract for Huberdeau was a signing out of sheer desperation for the gm. And as has been said, likely at the direction of the never rebuild owner.
Could still work out for a few years if they can find a player that can play with him. So far, it looks like his linemates are shocked when the puck comes near their sticks and don't know what to do once it's there.

You continue to absolve Flames management of blame. I get we don't know exactly what's going on behind the scenes, but there exists a pattern of Treliving handing out albatross contracts to older players in this league.
