It's almost like writing players off after 30 games is not very fair.

Not singling you out, but I really dislike this take.
Fanbases can suffer and be frustrated and be vocal about that and still be every bit as much of a fan as the ‘optimists’. If you can’t do that on a forum among your fellow fans then where can you?
Would it be more fun on this board if it was just homogenous, blind optimism?

If the Flames lose to the Ducks, it will literally be the bottom of the barrel for the season…..lets hope they rise up.

So think this roster has what it takes? That blows my mind.

You need some money on the books during a hypothetical rebuild…but yeah, Kadri and Huberdeau’s contracts look to have the risk of turning a rebuild into a really long drawn out process.
I’m still hoping things get better, but the top of the roster is nowhere near skilled enough and we’re already capped out for next season…so, how do things get better?
Being at the dome tonight, like I have been for most games this season…the fan base sounds like it’s really starting to turn on the team. I think this may get really ugly if things don’t turn around soon.

I think they need some sort of change of scenery trades to get players that can complement Huberdeau's style. He cant plug in anywhere and carry a team like a true star and he has barely any chemistry with anyone. Flames are stuck with him. They need to play a style that works for him and get players that can support his style as he's not going anywhere with that contract. I don't think hes suddenly going to become a Sutter style player. He needs more ice time to.

Vladar has improved his play, Markstrom has had better games of late, Huberdeau has years of evidence showing he’s got a lot more to give, guys who were great last season under Sutter aren’t this season (meaning there’s potential there for improvement under this coach), Sutter is a great coach and Treliving has shown he’s unafraid to make moves if something isn’t working.
Plenty of ways to be realistically optimistic. That’s all aside from the fact that it’s hockey and anything can happen and often does. And again, it costs nothing, “realistic” or not. Realism is often just an excuse negative people use to stay negative.

For some reason I think this team is going to bounce back. They’re probably going to make the playoffs, then anything can happen.
It’s built well from top to bottom. It’s easy to say we miss 13 and 19 but they had some bad years too. We finished 1st in the western conference and were a 1st round exit.
For some reason, they don’t have their mojo. But if they get it back, they have a lot of experience to grind out playoff wins.
I may have Homer glasses on but I think they’ll be fine.

Geeze, read the room. Don’t you know our future is literally in taters for the next several years. This kind of positivity has no place on CP.
But seriously, thank you for a take that doesn’t make me sad

Costs nothing to be pessimistic about the team either, especially when the evidence points that way. Doesn’t make me less of a fan. At the end of the day, we all want this franchise to succeed. You just choose to be optimistic in the darkest of times. I do not.

It's just weird to me that a Flames fan can watch this team from 2006 to 2013 and think that it's a good strategy to just make the playoffs and then "anything can happen".
Either this team is constructed well or it isn't. I don't think a team limping into the playoffs is constructed well.

Baffling to me that the team hasn’t capitalized on their centre depth.
Lindholm-Kadri-Backlund-Ruzicka should give us the deepest centre depth in the league.
The coaching staff needs to figure out how to leverage this.
