Watched a couple movie this weekend:

Barbarian - was not at all what I thought it was going to be after the first 10 minutes. Like...at all - I was way off and I love movies that can surprise me like that. I really, really enjoyed it though, Justin Long was great in it.

Smile: This kinda reminded me of The Ring. It has some really intense and creepy scenes, and I was really invested in the main character and what was going on. However, I feel like The Ring did it better. I was also disappointed with how it ended. Also, if suicide is something that is triggering to you or you have a hard time with, you definitely want to skip this one.

Crimes of the Future

A real WTF out of 10.

I admire David Cronenberg's work, but this movie seemed like a parody of his best work. In GIF format, it felt like this:

I like a lot of his stuff but I turned this one off. It was just too weird for me.

Weird is fine. It just needs purpose, character development, and story... which it had very little of. Just left with weird.

I liked the nudity! But not much else. I too did not make it all the way thru.

Crimes of the Future was probably the most half-baked Cronenberg in awhile.

He's never been a big "narrative" guy, but the lack of general cohesion really added to the feeling that the movie was just moving from set piece to set piece.

6.5/10 if I'm being honest, but still watchable for the weirdness and some actual use of practical effects, which is always appreciated.

It's still weird to me that Cronenberg has a reoccurring role on Star Trek Discovery

The Banshees of Inisherin deserves the hype it’s getting. Great film top to bottom. Acting, cinematography, story, etc etc.

Watched the Menu this week.

Fiennes and Hoult were great as usual. Something about Anya-Taylor Joy that i do not like, and felt like her character really brought the film down.

Spoiler!

6/10. Decent dark comedy that tries to be something more.

Loved Pig, Nick Cage is our generations Brando, 9 times out of 10 unwatchable and mailing it in and then 1 time out of 10 sublime and transcendent

I happened to like that part a lot. she played the game, since she was a wild card and was not factored into their original plan, and turned it in her favour

Pig was good too, the third act in particular was great, but I thought the menu was stronger at what it was aiming for from start to finish and leaned into its self aware madness, pig was more watered down as it meandered early on with what felt like bits of every other nic cage movie with a few great moments of commentary once it made clear exactly what the story was about

you're underrating the entertainment and comedic angle that the menu brought to the table I think .. everybody was in stitches at my viewing consistently throughout, and that should give it more points

9/10

Black Adam wasn't nearly as bad as some made it out to be and not nearly as good as it could or should have been. DC is just so frustrating.

It's available on Crave now should you be interested.

Watched Rhinestone with Dolly Parton and Sly Stallone. It's about a country singer (Dolly) who makes a bet she can turn anyone into a star with her boss and has 2 weeks to transform NY cab driver Stallone into a star. It's basically the plot of She's all That ...... movie is hilarious but certainly not everyone will like it. But it did give us Stallone singing Drinkenstein.....

It committed the worst possible sin a “blockbuster” can: it was painfully boring. Everything about it was mediocre, it felt like the film equivalent of eating lunch at a co-op. It couldn’t even reach good bad status it only exists and that’s it. Awful

I must concur. I dont think it was as bad as some people screaming from rooftops were claiming, but I feel no incentive to ever watch it again. Nor am I concerned or interested in 'what comes next.'

I generally like The Rock. He is who and what he is and he tends to play characters and roles to that effect. He is a known quantity. You get what you pay for and he tends to deliver that.

But then you see him talking about how he wants Black Adam to be DC's new Flagship property or something? Build the Universe around him?

Dude...nobody even knows who Black Adam is and whats more, they dont care.

Stop trying to make some sort of Adam-verse happen. Its just not streets ahead...
