I wasn't a fan of signing him to a long term deal so quickly but we still need to keep in mind that he's making $5.9 mill this season. Expecting him to play like a $10.5 mill player isn't wrong since we did extend him, but it isn't entirely fair either just because he is adjusting to the system and team. He isn't "terrible" but for sure he's not as advertised either.
We should be willing to give him some slack to adjust this season whether it takes him the whole season I don't know. He's on a .69 PPG pace which is bad for his standards but it can easily change with a couple multipoint nights. On top of that he hasn't been bad defensively as some has pointed out. The positive side is he has always adjusted and improved yearly so hopefully this is just a "reset" year for him. I do believe he is trying too hard like every other guy on the team and I'm pretty sure they aren't having as much fun right now. I don't like the system we're playing but like every fan, patience is difficult and I guess we'll see as the season progresses.

That player has to be a game changer type player that can take the team on his back and give them a chance to win.
Huberdeau has not shown a single game this season where I believed he could turn the tide.

Yeah. That is my issue with Huberdeau, there hasn’t even been a glimpse of a game where he was a game breaker

I'd honestly just take an uptick in 5 on 5 production from Huberdeau. He's currently tied with Brett Ritchie for 10th place on the team in 5 on 5 points right now which isn't ideal, especially considering their gargantuan differences in minutes played. Most of his production has been on the PP, which while important, isn't what we expect from him. He's a superstar, not a PP specialist.
I think you're right though, I haven't seen many games this season where Huberdeau looks like he's about to put the team on his back. He sort of just looks like one of the guys which would be fine if you were a 4th liner making close to league min, but obviously that is not what Huberdeau is paid to be.

Someone puts forth a thoughtful post with real information and data and you respond with cliché, empty and baseless negativity.
If you are going to be that guy at least put in the work and effort that is in half-way proportional to the post you are replying to.
No I don't remember the games from 2 years ago against Ottawa because who cares.

I’m sorry, but I can’t bring myself to be excited by good defensive metrics. The team needs scoring pretty badly right now. He has been producing a point a game his last 9 games which is a good sign

What are you laughing about, you honestly didn't make any kind of point.
The Flames were .392 against the three best teams in the Canadian division and .589 against the three worst.
Ergo easier schedule more success.
Pointing out the Ottawa debacle didn't change that even in a bizarro season like that one.
Or should I laugh out loud at their record with Vancouver that season as some sort of proof that a weaker schedule will help?
If you're going to walk out this lame schtick at least be good at it.

I think if you’re waiting for a McDavid, Gaudreau, McKinnon type game I think you’re going to be disappointed.
He’s a setup man. They’re usually not too flashy.

My eye test says he's a complimentary player playing without the driving player and the Flames may not have that driving player.
My history test says he put up 115 points playing with guys that don't really drive the play.

Huberdeau is spectacular.
He giftwraps open nets unlike anyone I’ve ever seen. He can be standing still, and get the goalie moving the wrong direction on the strength of a head fake. Lindholm and Toffoli have biffed at least five of these where nobody is within ten feet of them and they just aren’t ready for a pass.
They’re Getting better it.
They don’t get scored on.
So as long as that’s the case, there’s no reason to break them up. Trust they’ll figure it out - Huberdeau’s nearly back to PPG, and there’s every reason to think he’s due for a strong second half.

Well for fun I just watched the third period and OT of Game 7 v DAL last year.
I think in the long run we will be fine without Tkachuk but we will really really miss Johnny.

Johnny can't even make the blue jackets better .. what games has he "broken" for them? I think they're actually faring worse this year

I don't think you can correlate team success with individual players. I mean, outside last year, the Oilers haven't done jack in eight years with McDavid and he's had help with Drai. Teams can have great players and still be at the bottom of the league, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Assuming he plays all of them Tkachuk needs 61 points in his final 52 games to hit the 100 point mark. Incredibly successful first season for him as he gets adjusted to a new city and new coach.

Now go watch the Oilers series. You won't miss either of them.

Sadly this. What happened to them after game 1??? He'd be an amazing complimentary piece, but I don't see a team led by Gaudreau ever going on a deep playoff run, he's just not that type of gritty player and too small/slim. Can physically intimidate and neutralize him in the playoffs.

It's not like Huberdeau has a reputation for upping his game in the playoffs. Both he and Weegar were raked through the coals by the Florida media after their exit last season.
Until I see what they can do in the playoffs with the Flames, I am not going to assume that playoff potential for any of the players is a win for either team.

Its just quite expensive if we are basically paying 10.5M for an Alex Tanguay or Kristian Huselius.
I agree we seem to me missing the complimentary player that goes into the positions Huberdeau is looking for someone to pass to. Another player that could also ease pressure and open more ice for Huberdeau would also help.

Presidents trophy and 2nd round loss to Tampa is a pretty high bar...likely no playoffs this season

Well, we won't even get to find out now.
Had he gone to NJ or something, we may see that play out eventually but he's not going anywhere near the playoffs for a while now anyway.
Unless they get Bedard and rebound in 2-3 years.
