I think England fans can take a lot of comfort in the fact that they played well. I do feel that Southgate let them down by not making more offensive adaptations and under-using his bench, especially in light of the 5-sub availability...
Having 5 subs on a squad as deep as England should have been a huge weapon in Southgate's arsenal but he hardly used it to his advantage.
But the team played for him, and played hard, some adjustments to that back 4 to shore things up, they did a solid job bottling Mbappe albeit a mistake on covering him led to France's opening goal.
I think English fans at the very least should be proud of that display and that there is a lot to be optimistic about concerning their team going to the Euros.
They do need to open it up a bit more though, they're still heavily reliant on penalties and set-pieces but they showed against Senegal that if you open up a game against them they can hurt you.
