I have zero interest in some rando handling my food so groceries and restaurant meals are total no go’s for delivery. We are less than 5 minutes from a grocery store and go when it’s not busy. I actually enjoy grocery shopping.
If it’s takeout, I’ll pick it up.
Used to buy tons from Amazon but trying not to be such a consumer anymore. Tired of accumulating stuff.

^^ This describes me pretty well — I don’t mind grocery shopping when I can just wander around and see what I like. I’ll also do takeout versus delivery (or delivery services) as it’s usually somewhere close. Also trying to buy less stuff in general…
Movie popcorn? Wow, I had no idea that was even a thing. How many of you would order from the Saddledome, maybe a pocket dog and some nachos?

We subbed your $5 bag of oranges with the $24 box of fancy oranges. Hope that works!

I really don't do a lot of delivery outside of Amazon or other online shopping. I've tried those boxes food services and my kids hated it. I prefer to pick up my food at the store or restaurant but if Uber has a good promo I will use delivery when required.
The 7-11 delivery app has been crazy with promos lately. I've never used delivery because all the promos work with pick up though. Every second week or so they have a $7 off $11 or $10 off $15 promo.

This will really knock your socks off then. You can get a slurpie delivered from 7-11.

I grew up in a household where my dad would order a pizza, then get in the car to pick it up. So naturally, I pick up my take-out be it pizza, Chinese, or whatever.
I enjoy walking through the grocery store, seeing the displays and comparing what's on special, what I get points for in my app. I'll try stuff out of the norm that's marked down or on sale. Heck my favourite socks are Joe Fresh (in fact I like a lot of their stuff) never would have bought it if I was shopping just online.
There's something to be said about ordering from Amazon/online. But I hate waiting. Sure I have Prime, but there's no such thing as 2 day shipping. I'll order Prime and get it 2 weeks later.
I hate the wait.
The drive home in the car isn't a wait, I already have my order in my hand when I leave the store.
I'll pickup where possible. Online suppliments what I can't get or easily get in person.
All that said, I don't live in a big city where going to the mall/store is a hassle. I don't have to content with crazy traffic.

I've gone backwards. 10 years ago, you'd go on Amazon, get it cheaper AND delivered. It was win-win. Now that everyone got used to the convenience, they are making you pay for it.
I've been doing a major renovation on my rental over the last few months. And buying all the random tools, sprayer tips, sanding pads....etc I need as I go in almost every single case the brick and mortar store has been cheaper. Even when it comes to the Brick and Mortar websites, I've gone into the store to find the same item cheaper. The flooring I wanted to order was 5.98/sq ft online, went to the store to see it before I ordered it, and they had an in-store special for 3.48/sq ft.
When it comes to delivery apps, I've 100% boycotted them. They are absolutely predatory to restaurants, and in most cases Skip and Door Dash are making more on the order than the actual restaurant after they take their cut. Albeit I live in Cochrane, nothing is more than a 10 minute drive to pick it up, the restaurants are definitely appreciative of the extra margin they get.
As far as the grocery delivery.... CBC Marketplace did a segment on it. Sure it's convenient, but you pay out the ass for it. ESPECIALLY if you use instacart.
It's weird, 10 years ago I was that guy that had a couple Amazon boxes delivered to work every week and the outlier. Now it's the exact reverse. I am the only person not getting one of the 30 or so Amazon packages delivered here every day, as I am finding almost everything now is cheaper in-store.

Our deliveries tend to be food (pizza etc) and bits and bobs from Amazon. The stuff from Amazon tends to mostly be the supplements that make up my daughter's mitochondrial cocktail, some of them I can't find cheaper anywhere else - and given the dosage sizes/amounts, we have to find the best deals.

I used to get food delivery but I stopped doing that as prices went up, now almost never get food delivery. I feel like it's a good psychological barrier.. do I really want to order out bad enough to go and get it? REALLY? Fine I'll just make a sandwich or something...
I use Amazon a lot, enough so that I feel guilty and mentally batch them so I'm not getting more than one or two deliveries a week.
Basically if I don't need it right away and I know what I want and I can get free or cheap delivery then I will.
Groceries I don't though.. I found out Costco does deliveries but I heard that their online prices are quite a bit higher so haven't tried that. But otherwise I agree with Maritime I like walking through the grocery store and browsing, sometimes deciding to try something different or see something new.
And yeah pylon is right you really have to watch when it comes to prices, sometimes Amazon is the same or better, but it can also be a LOT more.

Mostly just an Amazon junkie, at least something every week. Somehow I got invited to be an Amazon Vine reviewer which ups the deliveries. Agreed on the small item in big box issue from Amazon. Also they can’t seem to bundle products together that often.
We get hello fresh or whatever every so often when my wife decides she wants something different. We did instacart for a bit early in the pandemic as she had an offer from them. Handy for coming back from trips when you are supposed to be quarantining.

One of the things that also really backed me off of Amazon is the packaging.
I ordered a replacement spigot for my big blue water jug I use for camping. You could fit this thing is a 4" x 3" box, and it weighs 1.6 ounces. I am not kidding, they ship in a box the size of a shoe box, containing another smaller cardboard box it could easily have been shipped in, containing the spigot in a plastic bag. You buy this thing at the camping store, it's in a small plastic bag and nothing else. Add the additional fuel usage on plane and truck..... Was it really worth me saving a buck and the added convenience instead of just walking into a Crappy Tire the next time I'm passing by one?

I ordered a four pack of some small lithium batteries for my door sensors. The package was the size of a loonie. The box it came in was 16” cubed.

I mean, that's not bad, that's like a 3" by 3" by 2" box... I would be surprised if Amazon had a box smaller than that.

Yep, I was never a big online shopper but definitely trying to cut down on having stuff. I only buy online now 3 or 4 times a year, usually if I have a gift card for Amazon or somewhere.
My big downfall is Skip the Dishes though. Order from them far too much, maybe 3-4 times a month, sometimes more, sometimes less, but definitely more than I would've normally had takeout. I need to cut down for health and wallet reasons. I guess it's been more popular lately? My last few orders have given me that "we've got a lot on our plate" message and delivery is delayed.
I think my wife has done a lot of black Friday shopping. We've had a delivery every day for the past two weeks I think.

The amount of money people spend on food delivery because they are lazy always blows my mind.

For some, it's because they are shut-ins/disabled/etc. *shrug*

Yeah, for sure. These are not bad services for people who have to rely on them, or even for other people who are all entitled to an occasional indulgence. Some people also have crippling depression and other issues that make it hard for them to go out.
I think it's crazy how often many perfectly able bodied people rely on the food delivery services though, especially young people who also complain about money all the time. I know one girl who gets Skip the Dishes from a restaurant literally across the street from her apartment and always complains about money. I have a 20 year old niece who gets take-out almost every day and all her friends are the same. They came to my place before and thought it was weird that we kept so much food. They were making jokes about people my age stockpiling for a war or something. I was like no, this is what normal people should be doing so they don't have to eat restaurant food all the time.
I did the calculation a while ago, and most dinners I make at home are around $4 per person, and even then I could do it for cheaper if I really wanted to.
Learning to prepare food at home is probably one of the most valuable life skills someone can have, and it isn't really that hard.
