Oh it gets far, far weirder than that, I'm afraid. But also plenty of stuff that is more reasonable, if obscenely expensive.

The reality is that for something like a technical coat for cold weather, you are either looking at a general purpose coat or you're an enthusiast of a particular sport (say, mountaineering), in which case you are looking at the objective characteristics of the item (weight, breathability, mobility, storage design, whether the materials can stand up to the duress of the sport) because the clothing itself isn't what makes you an enthusiast of the thing you're an enthusiast about, it's merely an aid. When it comes to cars, the car is the very thing you're enjoying. That's why it's a bad comparison. Well, one reason, anyway.
I mean it sounds like you're arguing that my car is objectively not the right car if you had to buy one car to do absolutely everything. That's true. But if you are going to buy one car for the specific purpose of being a car enthusiast's weekend driving machine, you'd have a hard time finding a better option for the price. For the CG jacket, there is no "specific thing" for it to do, no specific area where you would want it to perform, where you'd have a hard time finding a better option for the price - or at all, for that matter.
I don't think so. I think they make a bomber, a bunch of parkas and a few puffys.

You could buy a civic and drive it on the weekend.

And it would not function as an enthusiast car. It simply cannot do the things that it needs to do to fit into that category. unless it's a Civic Type R, in which case we can have a bunch of argument about the benefits and drawbacks of certain objective characteristics of the type R compared to other cars you could have for the price in its segment (in this case we'd be debating hot hatches). There is at least an argument that the Civic Type R is the best hot hatch on the market.
You can also buy a Canada Goose expedition parka and wear it ice climbing, for example... but it's absolutely going to suck for that purpose.

I love bitching about how expensive things are now. It's a perfectly good use of middle aged man time and so much fun because literally everyone, except the one person in that industry / company, agrees. It could be anything, but it's worth bitching about.
Today I noticed that Boston Pizza, for a large Hawaiian, is $45. lol- that is an absurd price tag for 1 pizza.

I find this entire Canada Goose/ parka debate just fascinating in a lot of ways. It wasn't too long ago that the general "style" for people who wanted to look more fashionable was nicer peacoat style winter wear.
Ever since Canada Goose became more and more fashionable and parkas became again more standard wear for people in winter, the fashion has shifted. People are wearing large parkas with suits, toques with the little balls, big, mittens again. It's funny.
I think what has happened is that for a lot of us growing up in Canada, buying quality winter jackets was needed and we would buy them from stores like Bay, Sears, Eaton's , Zellers etc. They were higher quality items and they were warm.
What has happened across the board is that the family style department stores or where a lot of low income and middle class people shop, the quality of products have really come down. A lot of products are made overseas and the quality and value has gone down the drain.
So when some people, right or wrong, think that the bare minimum standard for a winter coat should be a $1000-1500 coat in order to stay warm, it's something that didn't occur back in the day.
Growing up, there wasn't a large group of kids with, adjusted for inflation, $300-400 winter coats in order to stay warm. They were wearing $80 coats.
When it comes to clothing and life in general, margin's are important and where a specific product is in terms of quality, construction, features and more. I always say it's usually better overall to buy a top of the line product of a tier 2 brand, than a entry level product of a top brand.

Related note - I ground my own gears because I could never remember if it was legal to make dual/triple right turns on a red light (like MacLeod Tr northbound onto 5 Ave).
I finally remembered to look it up, and the answer is yes, it is legal.

Where did you look it up? I've always been confused by that as well, but I've never found anywhere that says anything beyond the furthest right lane.

Another gear grinder!! (not the dual turning on red, that's legit)
Those who are in the inside lane, make the turn and then immediately cross 4 lanes of traffic to get to the outside lane cutting off everyone else in the process.

Or when you're turning right, but the car in front of you inexplicably swings wide when making their left turn, and you're stuck until they go. Just why?

This happens to me multiple times every day. What is wrong with these people. They drive down the road in a lane, then when they get to the intersection they move over just enough so no one can turn right. I honk and flash these morons.
In my area there’s also a significant number of turn right from the left lane folks and with so many pedestrians green lights are red by the time they go and traffic is gridlock because of them. But look at all that curb lane space they could have moved into for their right turn.
The other one that amazes me is the people who can’t go through a residential street when there’s a car coming the other way. On my way out from my kids school two semi trucks can pass between the parked cars yet every day there’s a struggler in their tiny Hyundai SUV that sits halfway behind a parked car until there’s an entire road length gap. How wide do they think their vehicle is? I have a huge chuckle when I oppose these dolts in my average sedan and they’re white knuckled in fear that my car is going to quickly expand by eight feet and take off their mirror. These are also the people two and half car lengths back at a stop. Get some lasik.

In a world where people collect everything from limited edition sneakers to limited edition jpegs of apes I think a winter wear enthusiast would be a long way from the weirdest thing.
The weirdest collectible is those little spoons.

Unless prohibited by a sign, at a dual right turn intersection, you may turn right on a red light after you come to a complete stop at the proper stopping point (stop line or crosswalk).

It doesn't mention triple lanes, but I'd assume it's okay, too.

And wind chimes. When you die, it gets thrown in the trash. Kind of depressing really.
