I wear my cape like a cape. That doesn’t leave room for a jacket to also be worn as a cape.

I thought from Silver’s description is became an actual backpack; I have seen some raincoats that do that.

You're focusing on the wrong thing. Don't worry about the model's pose. It's irrelevant.
The backpack straps are a super good idea. They would be handy when you're walking around the mall; however, I usually just leave my parka in the car.
That brings up something else, actually. I wish malls were kept at, like, 5° in the winter so you could keep your warm clothes on. Would save a lot of energy, too.
One last note...if you want to type the "degree" symbol, hold down Alt + 0176. Really comes in handy.

We’re in Calgary. It went from -20 to 1 one day. Also the people wearing those things practically take up two seats on the bus. The whole waiting for the bus thing is one point, cause the bus and trains and generally well-heated, especially since transit also with the heat generated by your fellow passengers, you’re going to be sweaty.
The only legit use case is downhill skiing or being one of those construction flag people whose job is to stand around with a stop/slow sign.

Oh man, you could never wear one downhill skiing. You'd be way too hot. It doesn't have pit zips or vents of any sort. For skiing, you open your vents on the way down because you get hot, and then zip them up for the chairlift up. You'd die on the hill in a CG if you were doing moguls or a technical tree run.
They're really for people who want/need to be outside in the super cold, but are committing to not moving around much. Holding a construction sign is actually a really good use case for a CG.

Today I learned that only people with Canada Goose jackets buy things they don’t “need”.

Why do you need the straps when you can just drape the coat off you from the hood. I think that would look better than the flying squirrel look.

It's good to have options. Plus I'm not six years old.

I suppose that is technically an option even if it’s not very good.
When you first said backpack, I really envisioned something a lot neater with maybe some straps that held it all neatly in a roll.

I will admit that if I saw a full-grown man wearing his parka like a backpack I would laugh.

Fair enough. I can see how I oversold it. I suppose I could try a few things to get a tighter package, but for now I'll just roll as is.

I've not done that work, but I doubt it pays well enough for a $2000 jacket to be in the budget.

It would only be acceptable if the straps were suspenders amirite?

I like to walk a lot, so frankly a warm jacket is pretty ideal in Calgary. That said, I can't think of a time when I've been out walking and decided to take my parka off. Maybe unzip...but even then, if I've gone for a walk and am wearing it, it's because it's cold.

Do you walk by yourself, with your wife, a friend, or your kids?
I kind of like walking, too, but prefer to do it by myself with headphones in.
I think sidewalks are too narrow and it grinds my gears. If I walk with my wife I have to put her on the road/gutter because my width takes up the entire sidewalk.

I have a massive Helly Hansen parka. I bought it because I was tired of freezing watching my sons compete in snowboarding. Now it just sits in the closet, but for standing on a ski hill all day, it was awesome.

You wear suspenders under a jacket.

I have a puffer jacket that handles -30 very comfortably with just a t-shirt underneath (will throw a sweater on if it’s super biting wind) and I’m also wearing it today, and I wear it in the mall, etc. I just unzip if it gets too warm.
Some people might not feel they “need” a super warm jacket and might come up with excuses for why they don’t (can’t wear it in the mall! the weather changes so fast! etc etc) but it’s like… you’re an adult wearing a jacket, you’ll figure it out.

My Chuck Taylor II's lasted me 8 years. I bought them for like $40.

I don't have a super warm jacket becuase I prefer layering. Then I can wear the same jacket from -5 to -40. Sometimes in the same day.
