Depends on which side his walking boot was on. From the replay, it looked like an innocent left ankle issue. I turned off the game, so am not sure if he has come back or not yet.

Tkachuk is now 5 points behind Huberdeau, Kadri and Weegar.

Weegar's contributions can't be measured in points...look how many goals the Panthers give up. Tkachuk can celebrate all his points by missing the playoffs.
Monahan will probably be traded and be in them...assuming he is healthy enough to play

A little worrying that they're not in the playoffs though and they'll need to beat at least one of Tampa, Bruins and Leafs for a divisional spot.
Also, as much as I love him, Chucky could score 1000 points in the regular season but until he takes over a playoff series he is not elite.

For sure but Florida's style a play is also obviously a factor...they play firewagon hockey every night. Like tonight we are bumping this because he got points but they got pumped again.
Also, they have had an easy schedule that will even out. Some people disagree but its easier to score on bad teams. Flames will be the reverse of that with the way their schedule has gone.
The teams we are following closely with ex Flames are Panthers, Habs, BJs...there will be much made about how much more points guys are getting elsewhere but I think its likely the Flames are the best of those teams. Two are obvious I know.
Flames were forced to make this deal...Panthers did it because they thought it would improve their presidents trophy winning squad.
Also, if Tanev and Weegar keep playing like they have been lately they will be up there with the best pairs in the league (something not shown in points)

Mark Giordano, D, Toronto Maple Leafs
Contract: Signed for two years at $800,000 per year on May 22
Mark Giordano’s contract looked like a steal when it was signed. It’s now looking like an all-out robbery.
The 39-year-old has been playing upwards of 20 minutes a night since T.J. Brodie went down with an oblique injury 11 games ago.
Better yet, through that span, he’s topped all Maple Leafs defensemen in suppresing shot attempts, shots on goal, expected goals and scoring chances against.
All year long, Giordano has been a staple on the penalty kill as well – logging the second-most minutes of any Toronto defenseman.

Gio was always the fittest Flame coming into camp so it's no surprise he's still playing at a high level.

lol
Tkachuk with almost as many points as Huberdeau, Weegar and Kadri combined kind of blows. I never would have thought that would happen.
Mony with almost as many points as Kadri also blows.
It wouldn't sting as much if the Flames were actually performing well as a team, but all of the above combined with the Flames not in a playoff spot is kind of pathetic.
Hopefully they get their #### together.

So, if you exclude Weegar's points, Tkachuk is outscoring Huberdeau and Kadri combined.

Panthers did it because they didn't want to sign long term contracts with Huberdeau and Weegar based on their ages, and decided that signing the much younger Tkachuk was a better bet. I doubt they thought that it would immediately make them better, they were looking more down the road.
And for all the comments about their teams, both teams are 2 games above .500 and Florida has the better goal differential.

You were telling us in the 2nd year of his 6 year deal that the contract was going to be a disaster. That was what - 5 or 6 years ago?

I mean, on paper you can't make a better trade for Tkachuk. I just wonder about Huberdeau being a fit with Darryl Sutter or a Canadian market. some guys just play looser elsewhere

I live just outside Toronto, so it's been great watching Gio excel with the Leafs.
My only concern is what he'll look like come playoffs time. He's playing a lot more minutes than planned because of all the Leafs injuries on D. Hopefully they'll be able to dial his icetime back once Rielly and Brodie are back.

The Panthers strategy is a bit hard to pin down. They went all-in last year, trading away multiple 1st rounders to build a team for the present.
Then they tear it partially down to get Tkachuk - which is all well and good, but they won't have any 1st round picks to build around for the next three years.

Gio can win another Norris... but until he brings it in the playoffs its' just the same old same old.
He kind of picked the wrong team for that.. lol

Glad I'm always in your thoughts. I totally admit I didn't like the contract and credit to Gio he was good for the duration of the deal. I'm not sure in year two I said it was was going to be a disaster but I hope it makes you feel good that you got me on an occasion I was wrong.
