Saw Devotion in the theatre. I guess it bombed because it wasn't Top Gunny enough. I rather liked it. Beautifully filmed, well acted, based on a true story.

it's funny that everything came out around the same time as multiverse of madness and ended up probably being the head and shoulders better multiverse movie
It really wasn't even a multiverse movie.
As a nihilist I get what they were going for and it made me feel good in the moment.
As a nihilist.

Well, like pretty much everything in Rick and Morty, Mr Nimbus is a direct ripoff of Marvel Comics.
Yeah I looked that up immediately after leaving the theatre. Simply a matter of parody preceding the original in the mainstream.
I had to stifle my laughter over the flapping wings regardless of Mr. Nimbus. Seems like one of those things Marvel might or should have changed for the betterment of the film. It was hilarious.

Watched Violent Night on the weekend. It was pretty much as expected, fairly cheesy, but also some good laughs. The Home Alone style boobie traps were done really well I thought.
There were some super young kids at the theatre though like 5 and 6 years old, that seemed like the most awkward part. Because its violent as hell, and earns its namesake. I wondered if the parents thought it was a holiday flick for the family, or they just dont give a #### lol.

Almost certainly parents who don't give a flying. I remember when I saw Mad Max: Fury Road someone brought an infant and a toddler in the theatre, and they immediately began crying. Others in the audience began voicing their displeasure at the situation, and ushers quickly intervened and asked the family to leave.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Written and directed by Aaron James, a current Calgarian who was born in Peace River. Corb Lund in the leading role, he's pretty good. Conrad Kootenay has a supporting role, some of you might recognize him from his youtube skits, great stuff. Filmed in High Level and completely Albertan, well worth going to see.
Can't imagine it will get a long theater run, kinda lucky that Cineplex added it. If you're considering it, get out and see it quick.

I never watched How To Train Your Dragon when it came out since back then I was a single 20-something, never registered on my radar. But now that my kids are getting into movies we gave it a shot and wow, the hype is deserved. The voice cast is absolutely stacked, and my 5-year old was absolutely enthralled. We only watched half of it yesterday before bed, and today she demanded that we finish it first thing when she got up. Hopefully the sequels are as good

There is a series called rescue riders she might like.

The sequels are fantastic. It’s probably my favourite animated movies trilogy. It was overshadowed by what Pixar was doing at the time but deserves more recognition for the story, animation and voice work.

If one cares for horror films and the such “A Wounded Fawn” was different and great. Really goes off the rails in a good way, first decent new horror flick to come out in a while. Looks like a grindhouse movie and won’t be for everyone. Think A24 but without the pretentious horse#### just the lunacy

I couldn't get into this. It was swinging for the fences and tried way too hard.
It reminds me of a Taika Watiti movie if there was no restraint and relied on cute/funny moments/dialogue.
I did enjoy the message and tone of the story but ultimately was told in such a clumsy way... which to be fair is a difficult story to tell in this movie. Ultimately, I'm glad movies like this can still be made.
Also, I'm happy there's more Asian/Chinese representation in NA cinema but it's awful tiring to continue leaning into the kung fu and laundromat stereotypes. It's just lazy at this point.

Watched 'Bones and All', a 2022 "romantic cannibal road movie", starring Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell, directed by Luca Guadagnino who also directed the 2018 'Suspiria' (which I really liked).
It's hard to recommend or not this film, as it's a pretty unusual film, but I quite liked it. The "horror elements" are definitely there throughout the whole film, but I'm putting them in quotation marks as they mostly aren't that scary or even trying to be, it's more just disturbing, giving the film an air of "this is very wrong", but in a way I found entertaining.
Overall the film is more of a romance / coming of age film, with themes of young, destructive love and some cannibalism on the side. There's some gore, but it's nothing that would shock anyone who watches any amount of horror.
It's an interesting, unique film that I quite enjoyed watching, it's very well acted, the turns of the story flow pretty naturally without being too predictable, and the mood is strong. People are finding all sorts of allegories in it, but I'm not listing that stuff because this film is probably best enjoyed by giving your own meaning to it.
The whole thing is kind of a "what the hell was that" I thought it was that in a good way, but it's probably hard to predict who will enjoy this one.
