I wonder what his definition of 'Younger' is. None of the 'Younger' Players even wesr an A. Lindholm is 28, is that 'younger'?

Why not? I think because there is an understanding that both Backlund and Tanev are the team's de facto captains. No one is getting the "C" until one if them is no linger on the team, and I think the situation will have no effect on a potential Backlund extension.

Its hard to tell if he will return

I would guess the eventual captain is Huberdeau

Not at the current rate that he is progressing. Also, some mention the Flames want to go with someone younger...he won't be younger in a couple of years.

Maybe, however I don't see any "younger" player on the roster who would wear the "C"

At some point, I would think the Flames will name a captain

However, my guess its an older player

I still think that Backlund is a very hot and cold player, especially offensively, and I don't want that to be the identity of our team. |
Im not sure you understand the role of a captain. He doesnt have to be the best player on your team.

I've been saying it should be Backlund ever since Gio left. He's the only choice IMO.

I’m not the type that cares at all about who or when there is a captain.
But I’d be all for Backlund getting the ‘C.’ I’ve been a big fan for a long time now.

luv the guy but no for me. I do however hope he retires a flame.
If Tanev was a few years younger man Captain material written all over him, how many flames take ownership of anything after a game like he did after the wings or continue to take punishment to make a play or block a shot. I would like Lindy if he re-signed or Huby, like it or not he's the face of the franchise for next 8 yrs

I think the Flames originally wanted Tkachuk to be the long-term captain, and thus didn't name one immediately after Gio left. But since Tkachuk has left, I think the team is not sure about who should be the long-term captain of the team. Backlund could very well be traded within the next 12 months, and the team doesn't want to have a short-term transition captain. Same situation for Tanev.
As for long-term captain material, I think Huberdeau will be a good candidate, as long as he doesn't get booed out of town or Allan Walsh doesn't manuver him out of Calgary. For Lindholm, I have a feeling that he won't stay in Calgary long-term. He will either get traded soon or we will lose him on free agency.

Sure, but let that time come then. He still has a handful of years left at a competitive level and maybe apart from Anderson/Tavev is the only guy who is never taking a shift off. Critical for the heart beat of this team and he deserves it.

To free agency. The Flames have too many other younger key guys to get done over Michael Backlund next year. If the Flames were ever going to make him Captain it would have happened already.
