As far as I can tell, the post above yours about covers it. Yup. That’s what insane right wing nut jobs think is what is putting the future of democracy in danger. They think the ability of politicians, celebrities and the rich/powerful to use their influence to have posts removed is earth shattering.

Actually, it isn’t even that scandalous. From a redditor (so obviously not fact checked):

To add a bit of nuance, they were removed not for being unverified, but for falling into the ‘hacked materials policy’ that was put into place after ‘the fappening’ where a ton of celebrity nudes were stolen and released.

It looked like potential revenge porn since they couldn’t tell if it was stolen or not, so they treated it like revenge porn and removed the links.

That’s the policy that was used.

Questionably sourced files that do not look like they were intentionally released by the owner would fall into that policy, regardless of who the owner is.

And then emails from republicans saying they should be able to show everyone Hunter’s dick.

Right now Musk's lawyers are desperately trying to explain to Musk that Twitter's legal ability to exist, like all social media, is predicated wholly on the basis that it isn't news media, that they are a private website with no responsibility for anything posted by third parties to their website and as such have no responsibility to either post, check content or do anything else with third party submissions, on top of this anybody Government or private individual can ask them to post or not post anything and that isnt a violation of anything, its just a request that parties Governments and individuals make all the time.

So is the story just the politicians used twitters fake news policies to get various tweets removed that they found didn’t meet standards and based on the data the republicans likely were worse at identifying fake news, found less instances of obviously fake reporting, or some bias among the moderation team.

That doesn’t seem like a story.

And then twitter held off on allowing discussion around the laptop until it could be verified as accurate. This again doesn’t seem problematic.

What am I missing?
