Only 19 high danger chances
Flames didn't finish but you can't honestly think he made one good save all game

I get it
But HDC are calculated based on opportunity, not execution
The count has literally nothing to do with shot placement, which is what the goalie actually has to deal with
As a goalie, I could care less where a shot comes from. My problem is where it is going

Not sure why a few of you are taking shots at the fans and even attendance. That's what you think is relevant here? that's what you want to criticize?
You think we need to scold the greater Calgary metro area for how it spends its disposable income? That is what you think we should be talking about?

I'm litterally saying they couldn't finish...but come on now he made some really good saves (and got a couple posts)
Team could have and should have bailed the goalie out...should have been a laugher

Agree, they dominated and should have won
Didn’t think Allen made too many awesome saves other than on Backs
Marky’s actual shot stopping was fine, decision making poor in two costly incidences
Should have been 1-0 or 2-0 Flames
Disappointing, to be quite honest, that they can control possession so much and can’t generate much
We agree, they couldn’t finish

Nobody in their right mind can dispute you concern about our lack of offense. But the concern about Markstrom is legit and as bad as our offense is, I’m more concerned about goaltending.
We had offense against the Oilers and it took 7+ goals for us to register our only win against them in the playoffs with Markstrom stinking up the net every night.
This season, it is the timing of the goals:
So many early muffins.
Score an important goal that gets us back in a game, Markstrom is prone to giving up a softy back-breaker.
Comfortable with a two goal lead in the third? Not when Markstrom is in the net.
Yes, our offense is a concern, but Markstrom is a complete mess and we are comfortably in a play-off position if we had the points Markstrom has cost this team.
There is plenty that we need to address. Addressing our pathetic goaltending is by far the easiest thing to do because we have far better than Markstrom riding the pine most of the season and playing in the AHL.

I was not active in this forum for the last 6 years and now I remember why. I have never witnessed a fanbase that is so quick to call it quits. Embarrassing

I think it goes beyond that. This team seems like it plays much tighter in front of Markstrom. Like they're too afraid of giving up a shot against to be able to focus on offense. They just look more confident in front of Vladar, dangerous even.

Guys, can we please update our hypothetical music references by at least a few decades? Thanks.

Nope, not buying that. That's giving the forwards a pass. I'm not doing that. So many forwards can be better. They're not afraid of giving up chances with Markstrom in net, they're simply not bearing down in the offensive zone. Or maybe the offense simply isn't as good as we were all hoping it would be this year. 40+ shots and how many were right into Allen's pads or chest? A lot. At some point the offense has to show up, consistently.

The team shouldn't be losing to the Habs. That game was more than winnable.

I can't be bothered to read past the first page. I know that everyone is ####ting on Marky, and rightly so because he literally cost us the game with two absolutely boneheaded plays leading to the only two dangerous chances against all night.
But the Flames played really, really well. They absolutely dominated that game and Allen had a very good game to keep us to one goal. There were lots of good chances to score, but yeah, nobody can seem to bury a shot. I still think it's an anomaly because these guys have been able to pot a few goals in the past, but for whatever reason we are getting PDO'd to death every single night.
Horrible shooting and save percentages. That leads to a lot of losses no matter how well you play.
Run with Vladar to fix the save percentage issue for now. There's no other option.
Work on the PP more so that they at least can score in that situation, because it's just not happening 5 on 5 right now.
Best skater for the Habs was Monahan. He was often out there against Kadri's line and they kept the puck in the Flames zone quite a bit. Kadri just does not look very good these days.
Our best player was Ruzicka. Really had a lot of hustle, was always in the right spot, and had several good chances.
It's not all doom and gloom, but this team needs some serious adjustments if they hope to compete for a playoff spot.

Anyone who says Markström playing in the net and letting the first one go in doesn't affect the team's play, has not played team sports. When you can count on your goalie you can play more freely, you don't have to grab your stick too hard and be afraid of the tiniest mistakes you might make. Getting scored against also doesn't necessarily get the spirit going, so there's also that.
Compare the team's play in this game vs in the Florida game, please and thank you.
(Not saying Marky is the only reason Flames are struggling by no means, but would Vladar let in those goals?)

Honestly at this point I’d rather call up Wolf and just have Markstrom watch from the box for a while. They can’t get out of his contract but they also can’t afford to keep playing him and dropping points.

Their goal scorers needed fewer opportunities to finish, pretty simple.
It works both ways and Markstrom isn't the only problem.
