Wins?
I mean Vladar has been good but...he has 2 wins

Also he's been playing wing there. It really bothered me that we never tried him on Lindy's wing. I think he would have been awesome on RW.

With how terrible Lucic has been there is definitely a feeling of regret that Monahan was sacrificed over Looch

They tried their best to get rid of Lucic first from all accounts. Even insiders here heard and posted about that in the summer.
Wishful thinking but I do wonder if Hubey would have found chemistry with Monny.

So 4 really nice starts - with most spread out over several weeks is suddenly warranting number 1 status on this team? It's a whole new ballgame when you're asked to start 4/5 games like Markstrom typically is and expecting Vladar to be ready for that is silly.
It's nice the Flames have an option to give Markstrom a breather while he gets himself sorted, but make no mistake, they are likely not riding Vladar to the conference finals this year, even if he's taking big strides towards being a starter in this league.

I would have gladly traded a 1st and a 2nd to move Lucic rather than a 1st to move Monahan. One is a good player (when healthy), the other is just never a good player.

I doubt it was an option considering only one team was willing to take Monahan and a first
Also there is still a 1M gap

Well, yeah. One is obviously going to be more difficult to move than the other based simply on value for Cap on the contract.
I like Looch and all and would have preferred to keep Monahan but Looch's contract is more of a boat-anchor than Monahan's.

I'm still sad Monahan is gone and think I still might prefer Monahan+1st over Kadri and his 7 year deal.
Stupid Lucic should have just retired like he was supposed to.

That may have not been the issue.
I suspect that perhaps it was more that Lucic triggered his NTC.
He's a family guy and has put down roots here, he may have not been willing to disrupt that.
Which would explain why, a couple times, we heard a deal was done or close to done, and then nothing happened.

A player should have retired at 34 just because you don't like his cap hit?

A reminder for viewers outside of the Flames and Habs region, this is not a nationally televised game. Centre Ice is required to see this game for folks in British Columbia, Yukon Territory, Manitoba, and Ontario (minus Ottawa).

it was just 1 year of Monahan
so a farewell one summer early . worth keeping in mind
miss him but there was real concern over his ability to play competitive hockey after all the body work
kadri was playing at a high level and filled needs here . and will if we become a playoff caliber team again

Looking for a solid game from Markstrom, and a HUGE ovation for Monahan.
4-1 Flames
Huby, Andersson, Lucic, Dube.
