Kenney was kind of in the same boat he's just much better at saying the quiet parts quietly. Danielle Smith yells out the first things that pop into her head and then has to back track the next day.

Since we're busy reminiscing about how no one could have seen this disaster coming, I know Halloween is long past, but probably a good time to seriously consider what a Pollivere-Smith combo would look like. But go ahead Conservatives, pretend it'll be good. Worked out so well last time.

Trudeau is a fantastic PM. Will look back years from now and be glad he was at the helm during this period in Canadian history.

Kenney wouldn't have won if Albertans generally thought it was going to be a government of wingnuts. That's why Notley lost - the sense was that she was not governing moderately, that the NDP were a bunch of ideologues who thought "social license" and those sorts of pie in the sky ideas were compelling. The pitch was sober, business-focused, "Alberta Advantage" stuff - don't you worry, we'll get back to the good times in the early 2010s and avoid farcical embarrassments like the spectacle of the government suing itself to avoid losing hundreds of millions of dollars associated with PPAs.

That same aversion to farcical embarrassment, which Smith has taken to lengths previously unheard of, is precisely why Notley will win this time.

But when people say this about every conservative government in every election they don’t get to be like see we were right. We went through Harper without disasters, Ford is significantly better than predicted. Kenny and now Smith is really the only boogeyman that came through.

Unless you were a person who regularly voted conservative and then switched in this last election I don’t think you get to say We warned you. It’s a boy who cried wolf scenario. So pro Prentice, Anti Kenny voters can do a victory lap.

Even with the most rosy-coloured hindsight glasses, no serious person can claim avoiding farcical embarrassments was part of the deal when a government funded propaganda office unironically labelled 'a War Room' to promote oil and gas was a policy platform.

Also it's not like Smith is in any way hiding her "bat#### insanity" bona fides. This is an example of a comparison to Trump for a conservative politician actually being apt: she has no qualms about showing you exactly who she is. If she gets elected she's going to do insane stuff, and we know that because she's already doing insane stuff. There's no "warning" needed.

There's run-of-the-mill "I disagree with the policies of Party/Candidate X and think they will be bad if elected" comments (think Mitt Romney or Bill Smith or Ed Stelmach).

Then there's "Party/Candidate X is completely unfit for office and will be an absolute disaster if elected" comments (think Rob Ford or Donald Trump).

Many of us in 2019 tried to warn others on this forum that Jason Kenney's UCP belonged in the latter category. It's true we didn't foresee COVID or Danielle Smith or the Alberta Sovereignty Act, but we knew the UCP would be an absolute trainwreck of a government and a huge step backwards for Alberta. We were right then, and we're right now.

If someone didn’t know what they were getting with Kenney and the UCP, even then, they’re unfortunately pretty dumb.

I'm starting to doubt that he will make it to a bid for PM before Ontario hates him worse than Mike Harris.

That's me, dude. Didn't vote NDP the first time (voted Conservative). Last election it was clear Notley was not only a good person, but a highly competent leader with a team of reasonable, capable people versus the ####### morons the Conservatives ran with and their mean, idealogue, poisoned-by-religion leader (never mind their jaw droppingly bad policies).

The president of the Arctic Winter Games International Committee is disputing Premier Danielle Smith’s claim that the games rescinded their COVID-19 vaccination policy following a conversation with the province.

John Rodda says the decision to revoke the mandatory COVID-19 rule was not contingent on any phone calls with Smith’s office, as the premier claimed.

In fact, Rodda says he isn’t aware of any such phone calls even taking place.

“We followed international health advisements, Canadian and U.S. health officials. We worked with Canada Games Council,” said Rodda. “Basically to ensure lifting the vaccination policy conformed to all concerns. That’s how it was rescinded.

“It’s about the health and safety of the athletes. Nobody wants to jeopardize them. But everybody felt like we’re OK with this now. We’re still going to be cautious.”

The vaccine policy was rescinded Nov. 18.

It's been fun watching the conservative members of my family do mental jumping jacks / voodoo math to justify voting for UCP in 2019, to justify everything Kenney did during his tenure, and now to justify Smith being a great premier.

When I tell them that the ANDP are now similar to Lougheed's PCs back in the day, and that Notley's mentor was Lougheed, and that Danielle Smith has even said that Notley is of the Lougheed brand of politics, they flat out hate that. They just... can't... accept it. It's like a syntax error in their brains. Telling them of all the wasteful money the UCP has spent or cost us in poor decisions... well then it's whataboutism with the NDP and Trudeau and Singh, the usual suspects.

The delusion with many Albertans (boomers?) is soaked in a blue tinge, and it will be a long while before that color is bleached out.

I find this whole sovereignty act thing so bizarre. We already have a constitution that confers a tremendous amount of power to the provinces, and frankly, Alberta could assert much more provincial power within the framework of the consitution.

Disagree with a provincial police force or an alberta pension plan all you want, but those are contemplated and are implemented in other provinces.

Why not just assert more provincial authority within the federalist system as it exists? It's just so stupid.
